Chapter 918 The Train of Destiny
Chapter 918 The Train of Destiny
Kiel landed lightly from the roof like a night owl, silently pushing open the hatch at the connection point.
Her footsteps were almost inaudible in the empty passageway as she quietly approached the driver's side window.
Through a pane of glass, one could see a train attendant in a dark blue uniform slumped in the driver's seat, his legs casually swinging back and forth, one hand lazily swiping his phone screen, watching short videos and occasionally grinning foolishly, revealing two rows of teeth.
He was completely unaware that a pair of predatory eyes were staring intently at him from the shadows outside the window—cold, focused, and full of murderous intent.
Kiel's gaze swept across the control panel, and she silently removed the red fire extinguisher fixed to the side. Her slender fingers gracefully hooked the metal handle, and her pink lips slowly approached the cold glass. "Ah..." She gently exhaled a breath of warm air, and a small patch of white mist instantly condensed on the glass. She extended her index finger and drew a full heart shape on the mist.
"Tap, tap!" Her knuckles lightly tapped the glass, producing a crisp sound. Her eyes instantly shifted, filled with alluring charm, her tongue gliding almost imperceptibly across the corner of her lips; every subtle movement exuded a dangerous temptation.
The man was indeed captivated by the unexpected beauty. This was to be expected—Kil's looks were already renowned within the organization, second only to Sherry and Vermouth, and the years had only added to her cool allure. Her mesmerizing gaze was enough to make any man lose his composure.
“Handsome,” she said in a low, sweet voice, “would you like to come to my room for a bit?” As she spoke, two fingers danced across the glass as if she were caressing his collar.
"This...this isn't appropriate, is it? What's wrong with you...?"
"boom!"
The man's stammering words were interrupted by a dull thud.
"Disgusting." Kiel's eyes instantly returned to their usual coldness, even flashing with obvious disgust.
Blood gushed from the wound on the train conductor's forehead, quickly spreading into a dark red patch on the floor. Kiel, expressionless, used his knee to push the limp body into a corner, picked up the keys from the pool of blood, and strode quickly towards the freight car.
She stopped in front of a huge, rectangular metal cabinet that resembled an ammunition box. She inserted the cross-shaped key and decisively twisted her wrist.
The cabinet door slowly rose, revealing a man in a black trench coat lying inside—Rum. Several thick black cables were wrapped around his body like living things, and his face was covered by a technologically advanced mask that gleamed with a cold metallic sheen, with a faint blue light emanating from the top of his head. Kiel could even clearly hear the low hum of an "intelligent entity" coming from inside the mask.
“The day has finally come.” Rum sat up, naturally took the keys, and spoke calmly.
He walked alone to the end of the carriage, deftly unlocked the door, stood at the junction of the two carriages, and after fully lowering the barrier, he casually tossed the master key, which controlled all the carriages, out the window like discarding trash. The key traced an arc in the air before silently disappearing into the lake beside the road.
Meanwhile, on a winding mountain road near the lake, a black motorcycle sped through the cold wind. Baijiu, wearing a trench coat, crouched low and growled into his headset:
"McCarlan! What's going on?"
“Don’t rush, Baijiu.” On the other end of the earpiece, McCallen’s tone was as relaxed as if she were on vacation. “The train is very punctual, you’re even a few minutes early.” On the parallel road, a black BMW was driving alongside the train. Inside the car, McCallen, with her slicked-back hair, glanced at the laptop screen beside her.
"In short, there is plenty of time," he added.
"Are you sure?!" Baijiu asked again incredulously. It wasn't that she didn't trust her teammate, but the news sounded too absurd—like a student who always submitted blank papers suddenly being told they got a perfect score; their first reaction would definitely be to suspect someone had made a mistake with their name.
“It’s absolutely true…” McCallum’s voice carried a hint of grievance. “The train is right in front of me. And…” He quickly scanned the complex route map and data on the screen, “In exactly two minutes, the train will slow down and pass through that big bend ahead.”
"Understood!" Baijiu twisted the throttle sharply, and the engine roared even more violently.
"I must go up there at all costs!" he emphasized into his headset.
"Don't worry, see you at the meeting point," McCallen replied crisply.
The rear of the train, the power car.
Two workers, covered in coal dust, were wielding shovels and sweating profusely as they threw coal into a roaring internal combustion furnace.
Just then, Rum silently and stealthily entered the carriage like a ghost.
One of them instinctively straightened up and looked blankly at the uninvited guest.
His lips had barely moved, before he could utter a sound—
Rum moved! Lightning fast! He hooked his foot, and a shovel leaning against the wall flew into his hand as if drawn by a magnet. The worker was still in shock, a tearing pain shooting through his abdomen. By the time he realized what had happened, he had been kicked out of the speeding train door by immense force! In the last instant before his body was caught and crushed by the wheels, he only caught a fleeting glimpse of Rum's cold, withdrawn leg in his blurred vision.
The commotion naturally alerted another worker. He was terrified, hurriedly dropped his shovel, raised his hands above his head, and his face was filled with pleading and fear.
However, Rum didn't even glance at him. The metal edge of the shovel in his hand sliced through the air like the scythe of death, accompanied by a teeth-grinding sound. Several deep, bone-revealing gashes instantly appeared on the worker's face, and he collapsed to the ground without uttering a sound.
The middle section of the train features a luxurious dining car.
Kiel was hurrying through the carpeted aisle. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the well-dressed guests still dining elegantly, chatting quietly, or admiring the scenery rushing past the window, completely unaware that the shadow of death was spreading on the train.
Her eyes were sharp as an eagle's, fixed intently on the horizon.
The control room at the rear of the vehicle.
Rum casually wiped the blood splattered on his hands, picked up a heavy iron hammer, and slammed it down on the control panel! Sparks flew as he pulled the emergency brake and then roughly snapped the alarm cable overhead.
A faint, almost gleeful, cold smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.
"Buzz—buzz—" The train suddenly emitted an unusually muffled roar, and its speed began to change subtly.
Below, in a narrow railway bridge arch.
A motorcycle shot out like a black arrow.
“Baijiu, this is the train!” McCallum’s voice came through the earpiece just in time.
"I see it!" Baijiu roared, swerved the motorcycle around, and sped off the road, accelerating along the edge of the forest below the roadbed.
A dangerous race began alongside the giant steel python beside him.
