Chapter 769 Fierce Battle
Chapter 769 Fierce Battle
The battle in the city of Zerundel raged fiercely. Neither side had any intention of retreating.
"Attack! Don't give up! Defend our last stronghold!" shouted one of the demon soldiers.
Slash!
A sharp blade sliced through his neck, severing his head from his body.
The same scene unfolded throughout the city of Zerundel. One by one, the demon soldiers fell, and the cause was a single person—Rei, the Hero of Light.
"Stop him! Don't let him go any deeper!" one of the demon soldiers shouted before charging toward Rei.
However, Rei easily dodged every attack and continued advancing deeper into the city.
Several human soldiers followed behind him. Their goal was clear—to take control of Zerundel's magical formation.
If they succeeded, the war would quickly swing in their favor.
Then suddenly—
Boom!
A black sphere dropped from the sky. Rei stopped instantly and stared ahead, his guard rising.
The black sphere slowly rose, revealing a tall, heavily built demon.
Sharp spines resembling rows of razor-like thorns protruded from his back.
He had slanted eyes and a horse-like nose.
"Demon General Drazhul…" Rei narrowed his eyes. "I didn't expect you to be hiding in Zerundel just to greet me."
"Hahaha! Hero of Light, we meet again," Drazhul replied with a loud, booming laugh. "Don't worry. We'll finally settle the battle that was interrupted by that annoying meddler."
He opened his palm, and a massive hammer appeared in his grasp.
Rei dared not lower his guard. Drazhul was an extremely powerful demon who possessed the ability of a porcupine, allowing him to transform into a spinning wheel and charge rapidly toward his target.
The sharp spines on his back could also turn into deadly weapons capable of tearing apart anyone they struck.
In their last battle, Rei had been totally overwhelmed and was just about to lose.
Luckily, Drazhul slipped up and revealed a weakness, and Rei managed to use it to turn the fight around.
However, Demon General Azaroth appeared and interrupted Rei's final attack, causing him to fail to kill Drazhul.
Even though he knew Drazhul's weakness, Rei still didn't underestimate him.
After all, Drazhul was incredibly troublesome and difficult to pin down once he entered attack mode.
Rei pointed the Divine Sword Luminus forward and took a deep breath.
He lowered his stance, then suddenly dashed forward.
"Hero's Technique: Lightning Slash!"
He lifted his sword high before bringing it down in a single, blindingly fast strike.
Clang!
Drazhul lifted his hammer and blocked the swift strike. A smirk spread across his face as he clenched his right fist and threw a punch toward Rei's stomach.
Rei's eyes widened in surprise. He quickly used the force of his own attack to spring backward and dodge it.
"Hahaha! What's wrong, Hero of Light? Is that all you've got? If so, that would be a real shame," Drazhul taunted. "My power is twice as strong as it was during our last encounter, so I'm not sure you can defeat me."
Rei remained completely unfazed by his arrogant words.
His experience on the battlefield had taught him not to respond to an opponent's provocation, as it would only make him emotionally and mentally unstable.
"I haven't even gotten serious yet," Rei said indifferently as he raised his sword. "So, let's get this fight started!"
…
"Arg! Let me go!"
A human soldier groaned in pain as a powerful grip locked around his neck.
"Hahaha! You pathetic human! How dare you attack Infernos? Now you'll pay for it!" the demon soldier in front of him laughed maniacally.
Just as he was about to kill the human soldier, a swift slash came from behind.
He didn't have time to react before his head was cleanly severed.
The human soldier finally regained his freedom and gasped for breath.
When he looked up, he saw a beautiful silver-haired woman standing before him.
She looked at him calmly, then reached out her hand. "Are you okay?"
The soldier took her hand, and she pulled him back to his feet.
"I'm fine. Thank you," he said in relief.
If Evalyn hadn't intervened, he would have surely died.
Evalyn simply nodded before shifting her gaze forward.
Her troops had successfully breached the fortress of Infernos.
However, she knew they hadn't fully made it into the city yet—it was still protected by a powerful barrier spell.
The only way to enter completely was to destroy that barrier, which was linked to five towering pillars in the center of the city.
That task was far from easy. Tens of thousands of demon soldiers were holding them back on the front lines.
"This is much harder than I expected," she muttered.
The main problem now was her sword. She could not use the Divine Sword Luminus for fear of drawing suspicion from the soldiers or Lucas.
As a result, her power was reduced by forty percent. She was not even sure she could fully destroy the city's magical barrier.
However, Evalyn knew that complaining would do no good.
She bent her knees and charged forward.
"Die!"
The demon soldiers leapt in and attacked her with their swords.
Evalyn easily dodged all their strikes before cutting them down one by one.
She then dashed deeper into the city. The only way to destroy the pillars was to strike them directly.
As for the possibility of being blocked, she felt no fear at all.
Once the pillars were destroyed, the troops behind her would be able to enter freely.
Evalyn sprinted past the demon soldiers trying to stop her.
She looked up and spotted the nearest towering pillar from her position, then leapt onto the roof of a house before dashing toward it again.
The sword in her grip glowed brightly as she raised it overhead.
"Hero's Technique: Cut of Light!"
She swung it, and a blade of light shot forward, splitting the pillar in two.
"Success!" Evalyn's eyes sparkled.
She hadn't expected the pillar to be so fragile. Landing on the roof of another house, she immediately leapt toward the next pillar.
The distance between the pillars was quite far, and it took time to reach each one.
But she didn't mind. As long as she could destroy their foundations and clear a path for the human forces, it was worth it.
On the other hand, the demon soldiers who witnessed the scene immediately panicked. They hadn't expected such a monster to be among the human forces.
One soldier pointed at Evalyn and shouted, "Stop her! Don't let her destroy the pillars of Infernos City!"
At the command, hundreds of demon soldiers immediately turned and chased after Evalyn.
However, the human soldiers were not about to let them pass so easily.
General Lucien raised his sword and shouted, "Hold them back! Do not let them chase Warrior Evalyn!"
"Yes, Captain!" the soldiers around him replied in unison.
Once again, the battle broke out, and both armies' fighting spirit shot up to its peak.
