Chapter 212: Western Food
Chapter 212: Western Food
"Oh, it's you, sister-in-law." Chen Yumei didn't feign enthusiasm, but simply greeted her with a light "Hello, sister-in-law."
After greeting her, she pulled An Hui inside. "It's too cold outside, let's go in first. My dad should be done talking soon. Aunt An, you have no idea how disobedient he's been these past few months while you were away. He hasn't been taking his medicine properly..."
Jiang Zhou tugged at Yuan Xiu: "Don't worry about her, let's go inside."
Yuan Xiu glanced at him sideways. "I didn't interfere. It's strange, though, but I feel like you, my 'stepsister,' have a problem with me."
It's not an 'opinion,' it's 'hostility'!
Jiang Zhou didn't try to argue: "You don't need to worry about her. I'll talk to you when we get back."
It seems there really is a reason. "You should have told me sooner. Isn't it a bit late to tell me after we've already met?"
Jiang Zhou sighed: "I didn't know she would come. If nothing unexpected happens, you and she probably won't see each other more than twice in your lives. Why would I mention her? She's someone I don't want to be involved with."
His attitude made Yuan Xiu feel much better.
……
The Secretary Gu who was talking to Uncle Chen was the same person Yuan Xiu had saved at the Friendship Shopping Mall last year.
That is, Chairman Gu's older brother.
As a friend of Chairman Gu, An Hui had naturally met him before.
However, that was many years ago.
"It's been a long time. Come to think of it, it's been over twenty years since I last saw you. Time flies, so many years have passed in the blink of an eye." Secretary Gu said with some emotion when he saw An Hui.
He can still remember the little girl with a ponytail, wearing a girls' school uniform, who ran towards him and Zhi Qiu.
An Hui smiled and said, "That's true, but thankfully everyone is safe."
"You haven't changed much."
An Hui smiled gently, "I took it as a compliment."
Secretary Gu burst into laughter!
Yuan Xiu and the others arrived late, just in time to hear Secretary Gu's laughter.
Yuan Xiu recognized him at first glance. When Chen Yumei mentioned him outside, she had thought that he might be the Secretary Gu she had met before.
Standing next to Secretary Gu was a man of similar age, quite tall, wearing glasses and a Zhongshan suit. He had the air of a university professor, very refined.
"That's Uncle Chen," Jiang Zhou whispered in her ear.
"Young friend," Chairman Gu waved to Yuan Xiu, "we meet again."
Chen Yumei glanced at Yuan Xiu curiously. Secretary Gu actually called her "little friend"?
Yuan Xiu stepped forward with a smile, "Secretary Gu."
An Hui and Uncle Chen were not surprised that the two knew each other. An Hui had learned everything from her friend Chairman Gu when Yuan Xiu rescued Secretary Gu, and Uncle Chen naturally learned it from An Hui as well.
Uncle Chen smiled and said, "This must be Xiao Yuan. Your mother often mentions you in her letters. I've tried the sausages, cured meat, and pastries you sent before; they were delicious. I heard you made them yourself. Thank you for your hard work, Xiao Yuan."
"I'm glad Uncle Chen likes it. I'll make it again next time and send it to you."
"Then I'm in for a treat!" Uncle Chen looked at Jiang Zhou: "Xiao Zhou."
"Uncle Chen."
"The last time I saw you, you were all alone. This time, you have a partner and children, you've settled down and started a family, and your family is happy and fulfilling. Your mother can finally rest easy."
Jiang Zhou nodded with a slight smile, agreeing with him.
Uncle Chen leaned closer to look at the children. "These two children are so beautiful and adorable!"
Secretary Gu did not linger, saying, "I won't disturb your family reunion any longer, I'll take my leave now."
Uncle Chen shook hands with him: "We can discuss this again next time."
After Secretary Gu left, Chen Yumei finally asked, "Why did Secretary Gu call you 'little friend'?"
Yuan Xiu did not answer, but instead patted her son, who was yawning with his mouth open.
The question was about something related to her, but it wasn't directed at her.
She naturally didn't need to bring it up.
Jiang Zhou leaned closer to his son. "Sleepy?"
The older brother buried his head in his mother's arms, turning his back to her.
Jiang Zhou reached out and slapped his little bottom.
Chen Yumei felt somewhat embarrassed.
An Hui spoke up: "Your sister-in-law saved Secretary Gu last year."
Chen Yumei asked in surprise, "Her?"
Realizing her tone was inappropriate, she quickly changed her attitude, "Your sister-in-law can save people?"
"Your sister-in-law works at a hospital and studied traditional Chinese medicine, so naturally she knows how to treat illnesses and save lives," Uncle Chen chimed in. "Didn't I tell you that before? Where did you remember it?"
Chen Yumei twitched the corner of her mouth, "I've been so busy with the college entrance exam lately that I completely forgot about it."
Why would she remember what happened to a country girl?
"Did Xiaomei also take the college entrance examination this year?" An Hui asked.
"Yes, Aunt An, didn't my dad tell you?"
An Hui rubbed her forehead. "I think I did mention it, but I've been busy taking care of the kids and worrying about your sister-in-law's college entrance exam, so I completely forgot."
Chen Yumei couldn't hear anything else, only the words "college entrance examination".
"Did your sister-in-law also take the college entrance exam?"
"Of course, you both took the exam. We'll see who gets into a good school then," An Hui said with a gentle smile.
Uncle Chen coughed and said, "Let's go to the restaurant first, and talk while we eat."
The restaurant is located downstairs from the hotel; it's a Western restaurant.
An Hui looked up at the signboard, then glanced at Chen Yumei.
"Did Xiaomei choose this restaurant?"
Uncle Chen then realized, "Why is this a Western restaurant? Let's go somewhere else."
"I've already made the reservation," Chen Yumei said, pulling him back. "Doesn't Aunt An like Western food? I ordered this especially for her. Aunt An, don't you like it?"
"I like it, I really like it, Xiaomei is so thoughtful."
After speaking, An Hui stepped inside, with Jiang Zhou and Yuan Xiu following behind.
After sitting down at the restaurant, An Hui picked up the menu. "I'll arrange it. Does Xiao Mei have any dietary restrictions?"
"No, Aunt An, you should ask your sister-in-law if she has any dietary restrictions." Chen Yumei glanced at Yuan Xiu.
"Your sister-in-law doesn't have any dietary restrictions; I know what she likes to eat." An Hui quickly ordered the dishes.
Chen Yumei suddenly sighed, "Aunt An has only been staying at my brother's house for a short time, yet she already knows what my sister-in-law likes to eat. I'm so envious!"
"She's my daughter-in-law, so of course I have to care about her. You're also someone's daughter-in-law, so your mother-in-law must know your hobbies." An Hui picked up a handkerchief from the table, gently unfolded it, and draped it over her lap.
"...That's true."
Chen Yumei's words caught in her throat. How could her mother-in-law remember her preferences? Whatever she didn't eat, that old hag would deliberately make it, just to go against her!
She looked at Yuan Xiu, then suddenly smiled, "Sister-in-law, you've never had Western food before, have you? Would you like me to teach you?"
