Chapter 93, Act 3
Chapter 93, Act 3
The most expensive modification to this bus was not the rally car engine, nor the 15mm high-strength steel covering the tires, but a material called KSL hidden in the crevices of the inner wall.
When Qin Wei expressed his desire for a heat insulation material, Royce, a seasoned veteran from the East District, recommended someone to him.
Garfield, nicknamed the Firefly, was once a firefighting hero, but is now a notorious arsonist. His story is a sad and heartbreaking one, but putting that aside for now, his self-developed fireproof and heat-insulating materials are indeed quite remarkable.
The downside is that it's a bit expensive.
But that's a common problem with good things; in the late 1990s, materials that could withstand the 2,000-degree explosion temperature were hard to find.
Oswald looked pained as he watched the fireflies effortlessly carry away the two large money boxes without doing anything.
"I understand the logic, but what if there's no explosion..."
"Don't pin your hopes on an unprepared opponent. Some things are like that—you may not need them, but you can't be without them."
If Oswald were on this bus, he would be glad that Mr. Wei was a visionary leader.
……
boom!
Pulling the trigger brought an end to Quinn's sinful life.
After being fired from Ace Chemical Plant, this man was corrupted and eroded by the Joker, losing his inner self. The bullet, while taking his life, seemed to return reason and emotion to him.
As his gaze shifted, the man thought of his daughter, and the image of her being held in his ex-wife's arms, tears streaming down her face.
Harley...
The man murmured and closed his eyes.
The leader's death did not provoke conflict between the Joker Gang and the group—Qin Wei's side was simply too formidable with their weapons. When Selena emerged from the roof of the vehicle carrying a rocket launcher, the guys turned pale with fright.
Of course, it's also possible that she was naturally very fair-skinned.
"Ladies and gentlemen, you have made a wise choice." Fully armed Qin Wei walked up to the Clown Gang, squatted down, and pinched one of the men's faces.
"Would you mind telling me about Mr. Clown's plans?"
"He... he was in contact with Quinn, and we had no idea about it."
"Where are the Quinn men?"
The man pointed to the corpse on the ground.
Uh……
Qin Wei scratched his head awkwardly through his mask. He had just told Jason to fire the gun, but he hadn't expected his boss to be the first to open the blind box. According to the Joker Gang's style, shouldn't this kind of thing be left to the underlings?
"What else do you know?"
"We notified the people scattered in the other tunnels before we came in, and they should be on their way here."
Qin Wei calculated the time. There were five tunnels leading to the outskirts, all very close to here. The pursuers would arrive in about five minutes. The Gatling gun on the roof of the vehicle had been melted. Now, the only heavy weapons they had were a rocket launcher with three shells and an RPK light machine gun.
The tunnel was destroyed by two oil tankers, and it seemed that the only option left was to return the way we came.
"We'd better get out of the tunnel before the Jokers and GCPD arrive," Selena suggested.
However, this plan, which aligned with most people's expectations, was rejected by Qin Wei.
"No, if we run into the Jokers at the tunnel entrance, even with our firepower advantage, we'll suffer casualties because we have no cover. The best approach is to stay put and use the wrecked cars as cover while we wait for reinforcements."
Qin Wei waved his hand and dispersed the clown gang.
These guys had been prepared to die, hanging their heads and awaiting their fate. But when they heard that they could actually walk, they stumbled to their feet and ran away without looking back.
Willie raised a machine gun behind them.
"Hmph! I understand what the boss means..."
"You don't know anything!" Qin Wei slapped the other person on the head.
"Don't fucking waste bullets, there's a fierce battle coming up!"
Behind the crowd, Royce's lips twitched; he was about to burst out laughing.
He was about to burst.
He finally couldn't hold it in any longer; he could only hide his laughter and his shiny false teeth by covering his mouth.
As soon as the battle with the Joker gang begins, he'll snipe from behind, first taking down Jason to get the box containing the evidence, then killing Selena. As for Qin Wei, he'll keep him intact until the very end.
The explosion did affect the carriages, and the sudden rise in temperature caused the human skin masks to wrinkle and curl up. That's the downside of these things; they're afraid of high temperatures.
But it doesn't matter. The tunnel is dark, and with his excellent voice imitation skills, he is confident that he can fool everyone.
Qin Wei had already begun distributing weapons. Royce rubbed his hands excitedly. If it weren't for the heavy mission he was carrying, he really wanted to take a good look at that face, that face with its distinct features that was so captivating. He could never get enough of looking at it.
Your existence makes my imperfections complete.
Royce reached out and began to imagine what kind of weapon he would get. If it was a shotgun, he would have to get closer to Jason, but if it was a rifle, it wouldn't matter if he was further away. In the chaos of battle, it wouldn't matter if one or two insignificant supporting characters died.
But what was handed to him was a playing card.
The Joker card.
Reus's gaze froze on the card.
"What's wrong, darling?" Qin Wei's laughter echoed in the darkness. "Why are you so serious? Smile!"
"When did you find it?"
Royce's voice changed; it became sharp and shrill, with an exaggerated tone like a stand-up comedian on stage trying to make the audience laugh by imitating his grandfather's voice.
Qin Wei responded to the question with a powerful smash of his rifle butt.
As everyone was gathered together devising tactics, they suddenly heard a wail behind them. Shining their flashlights, they found Qin Wei repeatedly rubbing Royce's head against the gravel.
Jason was stunned. He was about to go up and ask what was going on when Selena grabbed his arm.
"Look at that face, he's not Royce."
Under the flashlight beam, a chilling, deathly pale smile was revealed beneath Reus's tattered skin.
Jason covered his mouth.
His shock was beyond words.
……
Joseph Cole.
The Red Hood's initial leader, a brave fighter, a true revolutionary, a great selfless man—there are many similar titles, and no amount of praise can encompass the outstanding qualities possessed by this noble individual.
He single-handedly founded the Red Hood gang, spreading its vibrant red color to every corner of the East District. He organized sit-in protests and worker strikes and marches. He opposed the oppression of workers by factories, abhorred the exploitation of the people by tycoons, and denounced the gangs' destruction of the East District.
He was well-read and once gave a passionate speech in the city center. He hated evil and never stopped shouting even when arrested by the police.
He was another ray of light in Gotham, besides Thomas Wayne.
Five years ago, he orchestrated an operation to protest the discharge of untreated polluted water into the Gotham River by the Ace Chemical Plant.
That night, thousands of people in red hoods broke through the iron chains and poured into the chemical plant. There was no conflict or violence. With the combined efforts of the police and the media, the crimes hidden behind the high walls of the compound were exposed to the public.
Jason was also there that night, but just as he and the others were raising their hands to celebrate the victory of the operation, their leader fell off the platform without saying a word and into a pool of chemical wastewater bubbling with green bubbles.
Looking back, Joseph’s recent behavior has indeed been somewhat unusual.
He no longer raised his arms and shouted, nor did he speak passionately. Many times, people saw him standing silently in front of the charred statue of God in the church.
His eyes were dull and lifeless, as if a world had collapsed.
