Chapter 16 You Have Obtained the True Teachings of the Demonic Path
Chapter 16 You Have Obtained the True Teachings of the Demonic Path
The next morning, Lorne crossed the Silver Avenue that encircled the entire Sky Island and followed the map to the Great Library.
Standing at the doorway, Lorne looked up, deeply shocked.
"Wow...that's huge!"
Before me stood a colossal building so imposing it seemed unreal, its dome reaching into the clouds, and the stone pillars on its front requiring ten people to encircle them.
Above the main gate is the emblem of the Silver Academy, and on either side stands a marble statue of an unknown mage, solemn and scrutinizing each person entering.
No wonder it's called the "Great" Library; he originally thought it was just a random name.
"Hey kid, are you coming in or not?" a deep voice rang out.
"Who is speaking?"
Lorne looked up and around, but couldn't see anyone.
That's strange, there was definitely a sound.
Moreover, the voice sounded somewhat familiar; he seemed to have heard it before, but he had only arrived yesterday and didn't know anyone at Silver Academy.
"Where are you looking!"
This time, Lorne heard it clearly; the sound came from beneath his feet. Looking down, he saw a plump orange cat crouching at his feet, its paws treading on the snow, tilting its head and looking at him with displeasure.
"Senior Cat? What are you doing here?" Lorne asked in surprise. It was none other than Sir Meow Leon.
"You have the nerve to ask? If it weren't for you causing me to lose fifty credits, would I have had to take on missions to earn credits as soon as the semester started?" Meow Leon got angry when he talked about this.
Now that he mentioned it, Lorne remembered. No wonder that from the entrance exam to receiving the badge, and all the other matters he had encountered, apart from Professor Sylvie, no other teachers had appeared; it was basically all handled by the students.
I reckon this is what Senior Cecilia was referring to earlier: taking on missions to earn credits, with the academy only providing the necessary instruction.
He said to Sir Meow Leon:
"Then you should thank me. If I hadn't helped you with fifty, you would have owed a hundred."
The cat was furious!
You dare to mock me?
The cape behind it had begun to flutter.
Then Lorne shrugged:
"By that calculation, I'm even worse off than you. I started with a 50-credit debt right after enrolling, and now I have a negative credit limit. Plus, I need 150 credits to pass each academic year. So, I'll need 500 credits to graduate!"
Sir Leon the Meow suddenly paused, looking on with a hint of disbelief: "Really?"
"Just go out and ask."
Hearing him say that, Sir Meow Leon suddenly felt less sad, and his cloak fell down.
While it's painful to fail yourself, it's even more enjoyable to suffer the pain of others.
It walked briskly into the large library, jumped onto the reading counter, lay down, stretched out a paw to pat a transparent crystal panel next to it, yawned, and lazily said:
"Just swipe your badge here and you can go up. You have access to ten books. There's nothing else to worry about. You can go where you can go, and you can't go where you can't go."
Are you putting it here?
Lorne strongly suspected that the cat was seeking revenge on him, and that there was probably a trap lying in the ground.
He was too lazy to argue with the petty cat, so he glanced at the sky and strode into the library.
……
[After a thrilling maneuver, you slipped into the Scripture Pavilion right under the noses of your vengeful Purple Mansion Realm demon senior brother!]
[In demonic cultivation, scriptures come first. It is recommended to find a suitable demonic cultivation method here to lay the foundation for suppressing the remnants of the righteous path in the future.]
……
The interior of the library is a spacious hall filled with ancient charm.
There were no stairs, only countless giant oak bookshelves extending from the walls to the dome. The shelves were densely packed with parchment scrolls, leather-bound hardcover books, and even stone slabs engraved with runes. Various colored light shields enveloped the books, and the runes occasionally flashed by, clearly indicating that protective magic had been applied.
Magicians occasionally floated by in the air, taking books down from the high bookshelves. Some waved their wands, and the books sprouted wings and flew down.
Unfortunately, Lorne can't fly yet, so he can only wander around the bottom level.
Following the instructions, he first went to the area where various basic magical knowledge was stored.
He currently has no magical foundation, so even if you give him a textbook, he won't understand it. It would be better for him to learn about the magical world first, at least to have a general understanding of it.
However, he only had access to ten books, so he carefully selected them.
"Chronicles of Continental Nations and Societies", "Fantasy Race Records", "Genealogy of Magical Families", "Chronicles of the Silver Academy"...
"The continent is so vast that even a novice mage could never reach its end in a lifetime! Ten thousand kingdoms, countless societies, giants, dwarves, orcs, elves, merfolk, fairies..."
Time passed slowly, and Lorne became completely immersed in the ocean of magical knowledge, gradually gaining a preliminary impression of this magnificent magical world.
"This book mentions the existence of illegal and corrupt magicians..."
He read on carefully.
The essence of a magic degree is a means for the orthodox magical world to control magicians.
After all, magic is a double-edged sword; it can protect humanity, or it can bring ruin to the world.
Therefore, the orthodox rule is that only major magic academies are qualified to train magicians, and anyone without a degree issued by an academy is an illegal magician.
They were rejected by magic academies for reasons of character and morality, but they had other opportunities, such as accidental acquisition, private instruction, or enticement, to become magicians. However, because they had not received a systematic education, their magical skills were mostly low. Although they were not killed by the orthodox magic world, they were not recognized and suffered discrimination, without enjoying any of the rights and recognition of magicians.
This is also why major magical families send their children to academies.
As for fallen magicians, they were originally from legitimate backgrounds and even had high academic qualifications, but they deviated from orthodoxy because of their pursuit of forbidden power.
They are more dangerous than illegal magicians because they are familiar with the rules, can hide more easily, and have even formed many societies and organizations to oppose the orthodox magical world.
Of course, a few illegal magicians later went down the path of depravity, but that was "upgrading from unlicensed operation to wanted criminal," and it was not the mainstream.
Seeing this, Lorne felt a surge of relief.
Fortunately, he was determined to get into a magic academy. Otherwise, even if he were to secretly cultivate immortality as a rogue, he would still be considered an illegal criminal in the eyes of the magic world. He couldn't hide forever, could he?
"The list then goes on to include some notorious underground societies and evil magical organizations, such as the Witch Cult, the Abyss Cult, the Academy of Suffering, and the King's Assassin Society..."
He kept these thoughts in mind and then put the books back where they belonged.
"I have one book to read left, which one should I choose?"
His eyes darted around, finding the selection dazzling and each book particularly eye-catching.
"Unfortunately, books that describe high-level magic or the inheritance of high-ranking mages are usually very strictly protected, or require authorization, and are definitely not something I can access right now."
He looked up at the towering bookshelves above him. The most basic magical mysteries were all high up, beyond his reach. Apart from reading encyclopedias, he had no access to the orthodox magical tradition, which made him somewhat frustrated.
Fairy tales are all lies, after all. Do I still have to wait for class?
"This is……"
Suddenly, his gaze sharpened as he spotted a thick, hardcover book in a secluded corner of a bookshelf. The book's style was completely different from the others, and its protective cover was covered in dust, indicating that it was quite old. Only the words inside were faintly visible.
He fixed his eyes.
The Lost Journals of the Legendary Wizard Selwyn
At the same time, a notification sounded in my mind:
[Fantastic! Your luck is incredible! You've actually discovered the true teachings of the Demonic Sect's Dao Embryo Realm Founder in the Demonic Sect's Scripture Pavilion!]
