Chapter 36 The First Day of School
Chapter 36 The First Day of School
Walking slowly down the corridors of Hogwarts Castle, I realized that I was now a second-year student and the initial excitement of being a first-year student had faded.
I should go to the kitchen and make myself a delicious breakfast so early. I feel a bit lazy after a week in this humble abode.
Upon arriving at Hogwarts' kitchen, the industrious house-elves were already up and preparing breakfast for all the young wizards and professors.
"Mumu, happy new semester! I need to bother you again today. This is a gift I bought for you during my vacation." Haha~ As someone from a country of gourmet food in my past life, how could I be satisfied with these simple foods now, especially since they're not even enough to fill me up? So, for the sake of this gluttonous person, I prepared an Eastern cookbook for Mumu.
"Oh~ Thank you, little wizard Ayers, Mumu loves this gift." Mumu happily accepted the super thick cookbook I had prepared for it, making the other house-elves who saw it envious.
"If possible, could Mumu prepare all my meals from now on, using the recipes in this cookbook?" I've been craving it for a long time. Although I can cook, I don't always have the time to prepare meals.
"Okay, Mumu will definitely try her best to learn how to eat the food here."
Mumu cherished this opportunity; the little wizard Ayers had been so kind to it.
This time, I'm planning to have corn porridge and egg pancakes for breakfast. Besides myself, I've also prepared a portion for each of the people I'm trying to woo, because I love everyone.
After finishing breakfast, I asked Mumu and the others to bring me a breakfast for each of them.
I memorized the second-year timetable when I left the Slytherin common room. Luckily, I have a photographic memory and memorized it after reading it once.
It seems that the second-year curriculum is similar to that of the first-year curriculum, except that there is an extra time in the evenings to participate in club activities, which is somewhat similar to the extracurricular activities I had when I was in school in my previous life.
I don't plan to join any club; that would be a waste of my time. I'm even planning to try and sneak into Ravenclaw's lounge to read some books this year.
I've read through most of the books in the library now, except for the restricted section, which requires special permission from a professor or the principal. I'll see if I can get one there sometime.
It looks like I'll be spending the first half of the time in the Ravenclaw lounge.
The plan for the second half of the trip was to try out the time travel feature at the House of Requirement.
I'm thinking of getting to know Lao Fu a little earlier. Love should be instilled from a young age, especially for someone like Lao Fu who doesn't understand love.
(Hey sponsor, are there any requirements for the time travel feature?)
[Jin: Host, son, you can click on the name of the person you want to pursue in the system panel, and a pop-up will appear showing which time period you need to travel to.]
(Currently, I can't get to know Voldemort's romanceable characters. Even if I do come into contact with him, it's only indirectly during the Severus period. I just need to spot him from a distance and touch him.)
Clicking on Severus Snape's name in the system panel will bring up a small window with three time periods: adolescence, youth, and present.
(Dear sponsor, does this time travel feature mean I'll be instantly transported to that era when I click on it? Is the adolescence period when I was a child and hadn't started school yet? Is the youth period when I met Lily Potter while studying? And is the present period based on my current timeline?)
[Jin: Host's son, that's roughly your explanation, but I can't give you the exact timing, only an approximation.]
(If I go through it, what happens to the time here?)
[Jin: Host son, when you leave this place, time will stop. It will only resume when you return. The time you travel through will be at least one day and at most one year, depending on the randomness of the time.]
(This is so exciting! The time it will take to get there is still uncertain. This is really awesome.)
[Jin: This is all to prevent the host's son from messing up the timeline as much as possible.]
(Tsk~ You guys are so distrustful, yet you still enabled this feature for us. It feels like you're just stirring up trouble.)
[Jin: Hehehehe~]
Having learned how to use this function, I can only try it out when the time comes. It's the first day of school now, and after what happened last night, I'll just take it easy and get through this week first. This morning's class is Herbs and Transfiguration, so I'll review it first and try to get exempt from homework this semester.
I had already arrived at the herbalism classroom and was reading when I suddenly heard someone call my name.
"Oh ho~ Ayers, your glasses are really luxurious." Without even looking up, you could tell from the voice that it was Fred speaking.
"Wow, that's blindingly bright." If Fred is there, George is bound to be there too.
The two of them hooked their arms around my shoulders, one on each side. Luckily, they dare to touch anyone else's things but wouldn't dare to mess with mine.
Otherwise, she would have definitely tried to pull off my glasses and get handsy when we first met.
"There's no way around it, if you need to, just don't touch my glasses, or you'll know what will happen." Smiling, he wrapped his arms around their necks on either side, then grabbed one of the red-haired men with each hand.
"Oh no! We just finished combing our hair!" the twins shouted in unison.
"Let's go, we'll see each other in today's classes." No one knows who arranged the classes, but every semester, Slytherin and Gryffindor always have their classes together on the first day.
It just so happens that these two houses don't get along and there are always conflicts. Fortunately, the Slytherins in my year aren't radical, and I can get along with the Geminis.
Our class wasn't as chaotic; we were still able to attend classes together peacefully.
After Herbalism class in the morning, Transfiguration class begins. With Professor McGonagall the cat in charge, even the most boisterous Gemini and Gryffindor students are quiet, obedient, and attentive in their lessons.
Professor McGonagall is used to me sitting as the little snake between the twins, and thankfully my grades are still excellent.
She felt that with an excellent student like me leading the Geminis, she could encourage them to study hard, and they would turn a blind eye to our behavior.
The happiest people are the Geminis, who now have homework to refer to.
After our morning classes ended, the three of us stepped into the hall/auditorium together, and several pairs of eyes immediately turned to us.
The twins lured me to the Gryffindor table again, and this time even Cedric from Badgerhouse sat down.
Our group became a unique sight, and we were so used to it that we became immune to it. The newly enrolled wizards were all curious and asking us questions.
I don't know if it's because Mumu learned some of the new recipes I gave her, but the food on our table is different from what other people eat.
"Wow~ This is surprisingly delicious. It's the first time I've had lunch like this." Oliver was the first to start eating with his fork.
"It really is! This is surprisingly delicious. I never thought it could be prepared this way." Cedric, being the most knowledgeable about food in the Badger Clan, praised it, which proves that it really is delicious.
Percy didn't serve himself any food. He first ladled a spoonful of soup for me, and to avoid being abrupt, he also ladled a spoonful for each of the twins, before finally adding food for himself.
I also picked up the communal spoon to serve Percy and the Gemini.
Severus, sitting in the professor's chair, looked at the group of people at the Gryffindor table, his eyebrows furrowed deeply, clearly displeased.
It seems like my little snake has been kidnapped by a bunch of people. How awful!
