Chapter 39 Foggy Valley!
Chapter 39 Foggy Valley!
Large-scale offline real-time competitive game?
Harry pondered the game Professor Delfino had described, and like many young wizards, he showed interest.
This is not surprising. They are all young wizards in their early teens, and their interest in games is definitely greater than that in tedious self-study or exams.
"Offline competitive game...how do you think this game should be played, Harry?"
"It's hard to say, Ron—"
Harry smacked his lips and said with great interest,
"It sounds like they'll be forming a team, and it'll likely be several teams competing against each other to see who can last the longest!"
call-
Neville, who had overheard their conversation, sighed and quietly followed up on the topic.
"Thank goodness... someone can help... I can tell you frankly, Harry, Ron, I have absolutely no idea how to deal with the pig-like creatures..."
"Now, everyone please form a long line and follow me to the third floor. I have found an empty classroom there as the testing location."
Professor Delfino smiled and said he was very pleased with the children's high spirits.
"An empty classroom?"
Ron muttered something.
"Is that place troublesome enough?"
Many people had similar hesitations, but no one asked.
Naturally, the students gathered together in their dormitories, and if the assessment was conducted in a team format, they would naturally choose people they were familiar with.
"Can I join you?"
The pretty, brown-skinned girl who had previously stood between Ron and Neville went straight to Harry.
"And a friend of mine—"
She then brought over another girl whose face shape somewhat resembled Neville's, but whose appearance also carried a hint of Ron's awkwardness.
"I am Parvati Petil, and this is Lavender Brown. We are both from Gryffindor—we can only team up with boys because there aren't enough girls."
Harry's roommates exchanged glances; clearly, in this intense game of battling monsters, no one wanted to drag a girl down.
Ron gave Harry a wink. But after a moment's hesitation, Harry nodded.
"Okay, welcome—"
After accepting the two girls, Harry hesitated again.
Because he knew very well that among the new students in Gryffindor this year, there were more than just Parvati and Lavender; there was another girl.
He glanced at Hermione Granger—who had clearly noticed their "clique formation," and also noticed Harry's gaze.
Even so, Hermione kept a straight face and remained silent, maintaining her composure.
Whatever you like.
Harry mentally scoffed, deciding not to make a fool of himself.
"Okay then, we'll team up in groups of seven... Oh, hurry up, everyone's almost gone."
After saying that, he hurriedly chased after Hermione out of the classroom, leaving Hermione, whose eyes were already red, behind.
During class time, the castle is almost empty, with only a few people in sight. You can only hear the sound of students reading aloud, the clanging of objects, or even explosions coming from the classrooms you pass by.
The young wizards practically jogged after Professor Delphinor. About five minutes later, they arrived at a classroom in the middle of a spiderweb-covered corridor on the third floor.
"It's class time now, and I hope you can try to control your excitement for what you're about to see."
Ares smiled and said something, then turned the brass handle on the classroom door and stepped into the dimly lit space.
Harry and his roommates all heard the professor's instruction, but they felt it was somewhat unrealistic—who would be excited about seeing a monster?
but-
"Merlin's beard!"
"Hiss, what is this?!"
"A miracle! How did you do that, Professor Delfino!"
"I can't believe you've brought a valley into the classroom!"
"Oh, a suspension bridge... I'm actually on a suspension bridge... Below—below is an abyss, how terrifying!"
After the first student at the front of the line followed Professor Delfino into the classroom, the room, dimly lit and filled with exclamations and shouts, never ceased. Almost every student who entered the classroom had to express their amazement!
Harry and his friends, who were already nervous about the dwarf pig monsters they were about to face, were bursting with curiosity!
Harry stood on tiptoe, staring intently at the classroom door, hoping to catch a glimpse of the entire room as soon as possible. He had never imagined that a soldier who was only a dozen meters tall could grow up to be like this!
So, we've finally got Harry!
He thought that the exclamations from so many students had already given him enough mental preparation, but when he actually stepped into the classroom, he still couldn't help but exclaim in surprise.
"How is this possible!"
Harry exclaimed, feeling more astonished than he had ever been in his entire life!
What did he see?
There really is a valley... not exactly a valley, more accurately, it's a complex terrain consisting of several small hills and valleys!
Several small hills stand against a hazy, dim sky, connected by passageways and suspension bridges, forming a closed loop. Beyond these bridges and passageways—
"Watch your step, Harry!"
Ron's screams were filled with terror.
"It's an abyss!"
Harry instinctively lowered his head, and after just one glance, he felt dizzy!
They were now on a suspension bridge, at least half a mile long, that could only accommodate three people side by side, and which swayed slightly in the breeze of the valley.
Below the suspension bridge, thick fog obscured the view, making it impossible to see how high it was... Harry, however, thought it wasn't an abyss but a river, because he could hear the rushing sound of water.
But whether it's an abyss or a river, if you fall from a suspension bridge located high up, the end result is certain death!
Has Professor Delfino gone mad?!
How could they have led them to such a dangerous situation?!
Many people were so frightened that they immediately squatted down, afraid that they might accidentally fall off the increasingly swaying suspension bridge. Some girls, such as Hannah Abbott from Hufflepuff, had already started to sob quietly.
"Please be quiet!"
Professor Delfino's calm expression,
"Could you please give me two minutes to explain this, everyone?"
The students gradually quieted down. Harry wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, held his breath, and forced himself to listen to Professor Delfino's explanation.
"First of all, this place is safe, and there is no risk of falling to your death."
Professor Delfino said that, under the stares of the crowd who looked at him like he was crazy, he raised his hand and slammed it hard against the space outside the suspension bridge.
Bang, bang, bang!
The solid knocking sound puzzled the young wizards, but at the same time, their fear subsided considerably.
"Do you understand?"
Professor Delfino calmly looked at everyone.
"What you see in this scene... the suspension bridge, the mountain path, the open space, the puddles are all real and can be stepped on, but the rest of the space is just a painting—a pattern formed by magic, an absolutely insurmountable wall... If you don't believe me, you can all try it."
For a moment, the sound of banging could be heard incessantly, and Harry himself tried it out.
Indeed, the suspension bridge appears to be swaying, and it is made up of rotten wooden planks and dark-colored hemp ropes. However, the space outside the iron lock railing is completely blocked, just like an invisible wall.
"How much effort did he put into making this place like this?!"
Harry saw that Ron had finally stopped trembling, his pale face had regained its color, and he was looking around the misty valley, marveling at it repeatedly.
From Ron's performance, Harry also realized one thing: the valley in front of him, which was no smaller than the entire campus of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, could not be created simply by waving a wand.
No wonder Professor Delfino said he overslept!
Harry pursed his lips and looked at the thin professor standing among the students in a row, feeling a surge of admiration.
"The name of this valley is [Mist Valley]."
Ares cleared his throat.
"This is the stage I've prepared for you."
Next, I will take two minutes to introduce the rules of this game called "Protect the Captain".
I hope you will listen attentively, because this game will be a part of my teaching career, and even after I leave Hogwarts someday, it will accompany you throughout your studies and help you become outstanding wizards proficient in Defense Against the Law!
