Chapter 81 Halloween is coming!

In the original story, it was Jason who exposed Mrs. Gunn's true colors.

Early comics were episodic, with simple and coherent plots. Shortly after Jason entered boarding school, he learned about Mrs. Gunn's plans in class.

But Jason was not even ten years old at the time, so he obviously couldn't get involved in this kind of thing.

Mentor Batman wouldn't easily interfere with his mission, while the local Batman was busy dealing with the Scarecrow and the Romans.

After thinking it over, Zheng En finally approached Wayne Jones.

"So—you want me to get into that school?"

Even indoors, the tall, burly man, who was still wearing a hood, asked uncertainly. Compared to Zheng En sitting opposite him, he was much taller, but his subconscious hunched back made him look somewhat weak.

"Yes, I need your help."

Zheng En's plan was simple: he intended to have Wayne replace Jason's character in the original comics.

Mrs. Gunn's charity school was originally established to recruit homeless children who could be used by her. Wellen Jones was tall and strong, and even before he became the infamous Killer Croc, his current physique was unmatched by ordinary people.

Although his status as a minor may not be immediately apparent, his advantages are significant, and his strong physique makes him safer than others.

While Zheng En had to worry about the danger of being discovered by the other party's infiltration, the risk level dropped dramatically when it came to Wei Lun.

Seeing the other person's slightly bewildered expression, Zheng En earnestly explained the benefits to him. Even if she didn't think those people could cause much harm to Weiren, it was still necessary to make things clear.

Wellen Jones agreed without much thought.

The danger Zheng En mentioned was nothing to him; he wanted money more, and the reward offered was just what he wanted, so that was enough.

"I see."

He tugged at the brim of his hood, hiding his face in deeper shadows, and pulled out a chair to leave.

Jung Eun called out to him, "Wait."

Wei Lun turned around and saw Zheng En hand him a cell phone. "Use this to contact me later."

"it is good."

Wellen took the phone without hesitation. Although he already had one, he believed in taking advantage of any opportunity and wouldn't say anything unless asked.

Just as he was about to turn and leave, he heard Zheng En speak again.

"There's one more thing."

Wellen stopped in his tracks.

The bespectacled young man pulled a handful of candy from a drawer. "Happy Halloween. It's not that time yet, but if it weren't for me, you'd be celebrating Halloween then."

What do you take me for, some little brat?

Wellen should have retorted like that, but looking at the candy in the man's palm, he fell silent.

He stuffed several colorful candies along with his phone into his pocket, and in a corner where no one was watching, the hole at the bottom of the phone emitted a faint glow.

Halloween is just around the corner, and the city streets are being decorated, gradually creating a festive atmosphere.

When Zheng En walked out of the company, the autumn wind was still a bit bleak. The wealthy people in the Diamond District had already changed into fashionable and warm clothes, and a huge skull statue had been added to the square.

Capitalists won't miss any opportunity to boost sales, and even though Halloween is still two days away, related elements have already sprung up like mushrooms after rain.

Huge ghost stickers were added to the windows of the shops along the street, sales assistants dressed as witches wore black lip gloss, Halloween sets were added to the menu, and even the old alleys in the East District were painted with spray paint, with a huge pumpkin head painted on them.

Halloween is coming soon.

When Jung Eun went to find the children, the first thing she saw when she opened the door was a child running around the room wearing a tattered rag.

As mentioned before, they originally lay on wooden planks with several layers of clothing as a bed. Later, Zheng En bought them mattresses, and the clothing was not thrown away.

To put it nicely, this is clothing material, but in reality, it's just scraps that kids pick up from trash cans and streets and sew them together.

Large pieces of fabric of different colors were meticulously sewn together. When the children wore them over their heads, they looked more like butterflies fluttering their wings than ghosts. The long ends of the fabric swayed as the children jumped around.

Two small holes were dug in its head, revealing its eyes. The little ghost spun around, then blinked at Zheng En, "Boss, boss! Look, look!"

Zheng En recognized the voice as Casey's. She swayed with a grin and said, "How is it? Not bad, right? We made this together."

There were two or three other butterflies like her in the room, while Jason and a few other older children were sitting on the floor, cutting fabric.

As soon as Zheng En appeared, the children started shouting, "Boss!" The voices rose and fell like a flock of chirping sparrows.

He patted each of the children's heads. Jason had originally wanted to put on a stern face and act like an adult, but the way he held the needle and thread in his hand was completely out of character.

On Halloween Eve, seven colorful ghosts rushed out of the alley.

Zheng En stayed inside the house, waiting to hand out candy when the other children came to visit.

Even in the East End, people's enthusiasm for Halloween will not diminish in the slightest; in fact, the long-term pressure will find an outlet, causing them to unleash even more intense enthusiasm.

Not long after Jason and his group left, Zheng En greeted three or four groups of young guests.

Their makeup wasn't elaborate; many just had oil paint on their faces, while others simply wore burlap sacks or cardboard boxes. Groups of children roamed the streets and alleys, knocking on doors from house to house.

For some children, the candy they begged for was just part of the game, but for others, it was a source of sustenance.

Some adults, as was customary, handed out candy to them one by one, while others, short of money, refused to open the door. The children, used to being turned down, quickly moved on to the next target.

Zheng En was generous with the candy, giving everyone a handful, and always buying the kinds the kids usually liked. The word got out among the kids, and even more people came to cause trouble.

In less than two hours, the prepared candy had been almost completely distributed.

Jung Eun had no choice but to go to the still-open stores to buy some more.

Few shops are open in the East End at night, especially since it's on the edge of a crime-ridden area. The shops that are still open are now more than an hour's drive away.

If it weren't for the bamboo dragonfly that could travel quickly back and forth, Jung Eun would have had to hand out candy one piece at a time.

He landed in an empty alley and then walked out of the alley.

This is a large shopping mall in the Burnley district, which has relatively good security. The surrounding area is quite bustling, and even at night, you can see people dressed up for Halloween everywhere on the streets.

Two-headed ogres and three-headed hellhounds walked side by side, Slender Man and Headless Horseman brushed past each other, Dr. Birdbeak wore a white coat, Scarecrow carried a pumpkin lantern, and children ran around in twos and threes, some dressed as dwarves, and others with wings on their backs.

Jung Eun headed straight for the candy store on the street, but was stopped after only a few steps.

It's the scarecrow we just saw.

A large mouth was sewn onto the burlap-like hood, the gaping smile looking like it had been roughly torn open, with individual strands of straw inside that seemed to be squeezing out of the mouth, making it increasingly nauseating to look at.

The scarecrow said nothing, but simply held up the pumpkin lantern in its hand and thrust it in front of Jung Eun.

Through the large mouth carved into sharp teeth, you can see that the hollow interior of the pumpkin lantern is lined with straw and filled with sparkling candies.

Zheng En waved his hand, "Thanks, but I'm going to buy candy. You can take this to the children." He didn't like the scarecrow at all. He walked forward as he spoke, but the scarecrow didn't give up. Holding a pumpkin lantern, it ran a few steps and blocked his path again.

"Okay."

"

Having run out of options, Zheng En casually took a few and put them in his pocket. Seeing that he had accepted them, the scarecrow continued wandering the street.
