Chapter 24 Deceiving Captain America
Chapter 24 Deceiving Captain America
"Attention everyone, go on high alert! Report any suspicious persons immediately," Natasha ordered her brainwashed agents over the radio.
Steve didn't sit idle either; he immediately rushed to the S.H.I.E.L.D. main power room, with "Tony" following behind him.
"What's your opinion on this?" Steve asked "Tony".
Tony's tone was ambiguous: "It's simple, they can't sit still anymore. Next, they might use their S.H.I.E.L.D. identity to take action against Valmont."
"That's certainly possible. You've been getting quite close to Valon lately, so keep an eye on things. I'll also be keeping an eye on any suspicious people around Valon." Steve quickened his pace.
Tony answered readily, "Okay, I understand."
The door to the power supply room was already surrounded by some agents, who made way for Steve and Tony when they saw them arrive.
Tony entered the power supply room and pretended to walk around inside, "carefully" observing the scene.
"Tony, look here," Steve's voice came from another direction.
Tony approached Steve and saw two corpses with only a scratch on their necks. There were no other movements; the killer's methods were very skillful.
"this."
Steve pulled two darts from under the corpse: "These darts again."
"To be able to kill them silently, the killer's physical abilities far surpass those of the agents within S.H.I.E.L.D.," Tony stated his conclusion.
Tony watched as Steve put the darts away. Including the two darts, Steve now had three.
Tony silently calculated Steve's gains. Stark wanted to study the material of this dart, but he couldn't just hand it over to him openly as Valmont.
Steve is a good choice. As long as this "good guy" gets hurt by the darts enough, as long as he loses his trust in S.H.I.E.L.D. temporarily, and as long as he knows that Stark has been researching these darts recently.
"What are you thinking about?" Steve noticed Tony deep in thought.
"Nothing much. I was just wondering, given the rigor of the SHIELD agent assessments, are there any people on Earth with better physical abilities than them?" Tony said, pretending to voice his thoughts.
Steve also fell into thought: "Theoretically it's impossible, but after all, these traitors are related to the Chitauri. We've seen the Chitauri's technology, and no one can guarantee what kind of monsters they'll create with their biotechnology."
Tony's expression changed drastically upon hearing Steve's words; Steve could sense Tony's current worry.
"What's wrong? What's on your mind?" Steve asked.
"You just said that no one can guarantee what kind of monsters their biotechnology will create," Tony's face grew increasingly grim. "Since they're monsters, will they be brainwashed?"
Tony's words were like a thunderclap in Steve's mind, making everything make sense.
Why were they so lucky that Glenn was among the first to be brainwashed? Why didn't Glenn cause them any harm after he went invisible? Why did the killer deliberately leave the dart as a clue?
"They're providing cover!"
Steve's tone grew increasingly certain: "Glen is just a target. Let's focus our attention on him and assume that all the brainwashed agents are on our side."
Steve felt a cold sweat break out on his back: "Natasha gave orders to the brainwashed agents; they already know our next move!"
Steve looked at the corpses on the ground: "They left clues so they could catch us!"
As soon as Steve finished speaking, the door to the power supply room slammed shut without warning, a whooshing sound came from the direction of the door, and then the once brightly lit power supply room was plunged into darkness.
"They've cut off the main storyline," Steve's voice boomed in the darkness. "Tony, watch out, they're about to make their move!"
There was another whooshing sound, and Steve instinctively ducked down. As he ducked, he could feel metal slicing past his head.
Ding!
The sound of metal hitting the wall was followed by nothing more; the dart remained embedded in the wall.
"Tony, be careful, we can't sense their location!" Steve shouted in the darkness.
Tony stood in the darkness, coldly watching the direction Steve was drawing fire for him. He could sense the ninja's location and was instructing him not to hurt Steve.
As soon as Steve finished speaking, he felt a cut on his face; the dart had grazed his cheek and embedded itself in the ground.
Steve could feel his heart pounding violently. The unknown attack was the most terrifying. If he hadn't been tripped by chance, that dart would have been enough to kill him.
boom!
The door to the power room was kicked open, and Natasha led a group of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents in. She immediately saw the disheveled Steve and "Tony" on the ground, and "Glen" in the corner.
boom! boom! boom!
Without hesitation, Natasha fired several shots. The bullets struck Glenn, who turned into a shadow in Natasha's eyes and then disappeared.
"What's going on!"
Natasha quickly walked to Steve's side and helped him up: "All the systems in S.H.I.E.L.D. just crashed due to a power outage, so I rushed over, and sure enough, there was a problem here."
"Yes, we were attacked."
Tony looked at the "Tony" beside him, who was also in a state of shock: "Fortunately, at least we can be sure that they can't see clearly in the dark and need to rely on sound to find their way."
"You're taking too much of a risk," Tony said worriedly from the side. "Even if he threw a dart at me, I might not die."
After Steve composed himself, he saw what had tripped him up: a roll of discarded duct tape.
"Looks like I'm not cut out for fighting in the dark." Steve chuckled self-deprecatingly, picking up his shield to retrieve the darts.
Six now, Tony counted silently in his mind.
"Should we hand these over to S.H.I.E.L.D.?" Natasha asked as she watched Steve collect the darts.
A rare look of doubt appeared in Steve's eyes: "No, it's not safe inside S.H.I.E.L.D. right now, at least I can't completely trust them."
Natasha was taken aback by Steve's words, and the atmosphere in the power supply room became awkward.
"Have you made any new discoveries?" Tony was quite satisfied with the current atmosphere, but he still had to interrupt appropriately due to his persona.
"They're very well hidden. Right now, I can only trust you and those brainwashed agents," Natasha said with a hint of helplessness.
Steve opened his mouth, then closed it. He had just thought about it. If he told Natasha that there might be a mole among the brainwashed agents, the mole would definitely notice something unusual, making it even more difficult to catch the mole.
Tony noticed Steve's hesitant expression and forced a smile, saying, "Hmm, that sounds a bit tricky."
