Chapter 1033 If you can't smash it, I'll finish you off.
Chapter 1033 If you can't smash it, I'll finish you off.
"No, it's encroaching on the land." Her face was grim.
Tang Sanzang concentrated on chanting scriptures, and Buddhist light slowly spread from his palms, forcing the black water back slightly. However, this place was not a Buddhist temple, and although his cultivation was profound, he was not skilled in warfare. For the time being, he could only protect himself from this evil entity that used the land and water to gain power.
Meanwhile, Chu Yang's sword light flashed intermittently in the thick fog, but he was clearly entangled.
Sun Wukong has yet to return.
The chill in Su Wanwan's heart sank deeper and deeper.
She knew that if they delayed any longer, and Ji Zemu completely blocked this section of the official road, turning the entire land into its "water," they would truly be unable to leave.
The woman in the sedan chair watched them struggle, and a smile slowly appeared in her dark eyes.
"Monk, you chant so beautifully," she said softly. "I wish I could pluck your tongue out and soak it in water so I could listen to it every day."
Tang Sanzang remained expressionless, only softly reciting a Buddhist chant.
Ji Ze's mother then looked at Su Wanwan, her tone dismissive: "Little fox, you're quite protective. But can you really protect her? With your meager cultivation, you can't even burn my hair clean. If you know what's good for you, obediently step back. After I've drunk this monk's blood and qi, I'll keep you here too, as the first lantern-bearing maid in front of my sedan chair."
Su Wanwan's palms were cold, but her fingertips slowly clenched.
Of course I'm afraid.
She could sense the gap between herself and the monster.
In the past, if she encountered something like this, her first reaction would have been to run, as far as she could, and she would never have stood in front of it for anyone.
But now Tang Sanzang is right behind her.
Chu Yang and Sun Wukong were lured away.
Although the White Dragon Horse was no ordinary horse, it was still bound by its own constraints, making it difficult to display many of its supernatural powers.
The only one left here to stop this moment was her.
Her chest heaved rapidly, but in the next instant, as if she had made up her mind, she suddenly raised her hand and pulled out the jade hairpin from her hair.
As soon as the jade hairpin appeared, she poured her demonic power into it, and fine cracks immediately appeared on the hairpin, from which a faint wisp of soft white light shone.
Tang Sanzang was taken aback: "Female benefactor, what is this—"
"It's a protective charm left to me by my mother." Su Wanwan stared ahead, her voice extremely low. "I originally intended to keep it to save my life in the future... but now it might come in handy."
Tang Sanzang's expression shifted slightly: "Don't act rashly."
"I wasn't acting impulsively." She stared at the black sedan chair, her lips slightly pale. "Master, please listen to me."
She turned to look at Tang Sanzang, her eyes devoid of any seductive charm for the first time, only filled with a fierce clarity.
"I'll blast away that fog and water ahead in a bit. You immediately ride the white dragon horse westward. Don't look back. Climb any high place you see, and go into any temple you see. Hold out until Chu Yang and the others come looking for you."
Tang Sanzang frowned: "And what about you?"
Su Wanwan paused for a moment, then suddenly smiled.
The smile trembled slightly, but it was very genuine.
"I'm a monster, after all. I won't die the moment I see you," she said. "Besides, I'm not one of your team anymore. I can't just cook and mend clothes, and then hide behind you and cry when it really comes to my death."
"Female benefactor—"
"Stop trying to persuade me." She took a deep breath, her sleeves fluttering in the wind as she turned around. "I've done a lot of bad things in the past, I've lied to people, and I've hurt people. But since you all treat me like one of your own, I should at least act like one of your own."
Tang Sanzang watched her retreating figure, opened his mouth, but ultimately only whispered, "This humble monk will recite the Heart Sutra for you."
"Then read it a little louder." Su Wanwan didn't turn around. "Actually, I'm not that brave."
After she finished speaking, she suddenly took a step forward and stood at the very front.
Ji Ze's mother looked at her and chuckled, "What, little fox, you think you can stop me?"
"Give it a try," Su Wanwan said.
"What are you going to use to test it?"
"Try it with your life."
Even Su Wanwan herself found it absurd when she uttered those three words.
But the moment she said it, she felt a sense of calm.
The wind grew stronger, the fog swirled along the ground, and the reeds rustled. The jade hairpin in her palm was now covered in cracks, and the white light within it grew brighter, as if something was about to burst out. At the same time, the shadow of a fox tail appeared and disappeared behind her, her demonic power pushed to its limit, and her pupils gradually turned amber-gold.
Ji Zemu's dark eyes narrowed, clearly indicating that something was amiss.
"You're insane," she said coldly. "Once your protective bones shatter, you yourself will suffer the backlash."
"That's still better than you running into him."
"Him?" Ji Ze's mother suddenly revealed a strange smile. "You mean that monk, or that foul-mouthed brat?"
Su Wanwan's ears burned, and she gritted her teeth, saying, "None of your business!"
Ji Ze's mother suddenly raised her hand!
Dozens of black water whips instantly tore through the air, whistling sharply, aiming straight for Su Wanwan's face. Instead of retreating, she advanced, her figure flashing, foxfire exploding from her sleeves, creating a burst of white light. The first few black whips sizzled and turned into billowing black vapor, but many more whips had already circled around from both sides, suddenly wrapping around her shoulders, arms, and waist!
"Female benefactor!" Tang Sanzang's expression changed.
Su Wanwan felt half of her body being constricted by the cold, dampness, her skin aching. She gritted her teeth and thrust the jade hairpin forward with all her might—
"Click."
The jade hairpin shattered completely.
A slender, white bone, as delicate as jade, emerged from the hairpin. It was as thin as a woman's finger bone, yet it burst forth with a blinding white light the instant it appeared in the world!
That white light was no ordinary magical light; it resembled more of a naturally evil-repelling fox clan bone fire. Centered on Su Wanwan's palm, it exploded outwards with a deafening roar, evaporating all the black water in its path and shattering the long whip wrapped around her. Even the black sedan chair that Ji Ze's mother was sitting in was thrown backwards, its corner lanterns exploding!
Ji Zemu let out a truly angry scream for the first time.
"Qingqiu Bone Fire? You actually had that hidden away—"
"Run!" Su Wanwan shouted sharply without turning her head.
Without further hesitation, Tang Sanzang mounted his horse. The white dragon horse neighed, a flash of Buddhist light beneath its hooves, and charged fiercely towards the western slope, carrying him. The white donkey, terrified, jumped up and scrambled to follow.
Seeing her prey about to escape, Ji Ze Mu flew into a rage, her hair whipping wildly, and the entire marshland roared in response. Countless streams of black water rose from the depths of the reeds, forming a towering wall of water that pressed down on the direction Tang Sanzang was fleeing!
Su Wanwan's heart tightened, and she rushed over almost without thinking.
Her demonic power was already in disarray from the backlash of the bone fire, and her chest felt as if it had been crushed by something heavy, leaving a metallic taste in her throat. Yet, she still managed to conjure a white fox phantom in front of the water wall, the outline of nine tails flashing by, incomplete but enough to shield her for that instant.
"boom--!"
Blackwater and fox shadows collided violently.
Su Wanwan was thrown backward by the shock, her back slamming heavily onto the muddy ground, and her vision went black for a moment.
She felt a sweet taste in her throat and finally spat out a mouthful of blood.
Ji Zemu approached with a sharp smile: "You think you're qualified to stop me?"
Su Wanwan braced herself on the ground, her palms covered in mud and blood, half of her body numb. But when she looked up, she saw the white dragon horse carrying Tang Sanzang had already galloped dozens of feet away, and she breathed a sigh of relief.
Just run away.
As long as he goes out first—
Ji Ze's mother clearly understood this as well. With a flick of her black hair, she and her sedan chair, along with the water, chased after Tang Sanzang in the distance.
"You're not allowed to go!"
Su Wanwan's eyes turned red. She suddenly pounced on the ground, grabbed the broken black whip sliver, and used the momentum to leap up, slamming her whole body into the side of the black sedan chair!
The impact used up all her strength.
The black sedan chair lurched to the side, and Ji Ze's mother finally froze. Her black hair flew wildly as she turned to stare at Su Wanwan, her dark eyes revealing genuine killing intent for the first time.
"Little fox, I'll tear you apart first!"
Her hair swelled up like a tide, instantly engulfing Su Wanwan completely.
A cold, suffocating, and overwhelmingly fishy smell assaulted her senses. She felt as if she had fallen into the deepest part of a lake; all other sounds faded away, leaving only her own rapid heartbeat. The strands of hair wrapped around her limbs, neck, and waist, tightening more and more, as if trying to crush her bones inch by inch.
Su Wanwan had difficulty breathing, and her vision began to blur.
She knew she couldn't hold on for long.
But just then, a very loud clang of a stick suddenly came from afar!
The sound was like a thunderclap from the horizon, instantly tearing through the entire fog. Immediately following was Sun Wukong's furious roar—
"What kind of filthy thing dares to touch my master?!"
The next instant, a golden light descended from the sky and struck the center of the swamp!
"boom!"
The blow smashed a crack several meters long across the entire surface of the marsh, sending black water gushing into the sky. Ji Ze's mother trembled violently, and the strands of hair wrapped around Su Wanwan loosened.
Su Wanwan fell down suddenly, and just as she was about to catch her breath, her waist tightened.
Someone grabbed her and pulled her over.
A familiar scent wafted towards her, carrying the smells of wind, dust, and a faint stench of blood. She looked up, her vision still a little blurry, but she immediately spotted Chu Yang's chillingly cold face.
"Are you crazy?" His voice was low and deep. "Who told you to take on this role all by yourself?"
Su Wanwan opened her mouth, about to speak, when another mouthful of blood welled up in her throat, choking her and causing her to cough.
Chu Yang's expression darkened further. He raised his hand and patted her back, his touch perfectly controlled, helping her cough up the blood. She coughed until her eyes were red, clutching his clothes. It took her a while to recover, her voice hoarse, "Master...did he run away?"
"He ran away." Chu Yang stared at her. "You should worry about yourself first."
Su Wanwan seemed to finally breathe a sigh of relief, her whole body softening slightly. She leaned against him, her chest still aching terribly, but she couldn't help but gently curve the corners of her mouth into a smile.
"That's good."
Looking at her like this, Chu Yang's eyes were filled with anger mixed with some deeper emotion. After a long while, he gritted his teeth and cursed, "Good my ass."
Ji Ze's mother was knocked back by Sun Wukong's staff, the shriek almost piercing her eardrums. She looked at the group that had regrouped, her black hair dancing wildly, the entire marshland seemed to stir with her.
"None of you will escape!" she screamed. "I'll sink you all to the bottom of the swamp!"
"You dare call yourself worthy?" Sun Wukong descended from mid-air, slamming his golden cudgel on the ground, causing black water to splash everywhere. He turned his head and saw the blood at Su Wanwan's mouth, his eyes blazing with even greater anger. "Brother, smash this clump of hair to pieces first!"
"Smash it." Chu Yang shielded Su Wanwan behind him, finally drawing his long sword from his waist. The moment the sword was drawn, a sliver of cold light sliced through the surrounding mist. "If you can't smash it, I'll finish you off."
Just as Ji Zemu was about to use her magic, a low Buddhist chant suddenly rang out from a distant high slope.
Tang Sanzang did not run away again.
He rode his white dragon horse to the top of the hill, hands clasped in prayer, his body radiating a brilliant Buddhist light. The sky, previously shrouded in black mist, was forcibly torn open by the light. Golden Sanskrit characters spread out in layers before him, like a vast net, pressing down on the entire marshland!
Ji Zemu screamed, and a large portion of the black energy on her body was instantly evaporated.
Sun Wukong, quick to react, flashed above her and his golden cudgel, accompanied by a fierce wind and thunder, crashed down upon her. Ji Ze's mother hastily used the entire body of water to meet the blow, creating towering waves, but it was still no match for the power of the cudgel, and she was forced to kneel down with a thud.
Chu Yang also made a move at this moment.
Instead of slaying the black water clones, he went straight for the black sedan chair.
The sword flashed past, so fast that its trajectory was almost invisible. Ji Ze's mother suddenly realized something and cried out, "No—"
"Click."
A very soft sound.
The black sedan chair, stitched together with countless resentments, was cleaved in two by a single sword strike.
In the next instant, all the white lights, black water, hair, and strange shadows hanging above the marsh froze simultaneously, as if they had lost their roots.
Su Wanwan stood behind, clutching her chest, stunned by what she saw.
She finally understood.
Although this monster used the entire marshland to its advantage, its true "core" was not its physical form, but the sedan chair. What was wrapped around that sedan chair was what it used to suppress the vengeful spirits of the entire Huiyue Marshland.
The black sedan chair shattered, and Ji Ze's mother screamed so loudly it almost changed her voice.
"No! My palanquin, my palanquin—"
"Your shouting is awful," Chu Yang said coldly.
With a flick of his wrist, the second sword arrived.
This time, it was Ji Ze's mother who was slashed by the neck.
Ji Zemu retreated frantically, but the Buddha's light pressed down on her, and Sun Wukong smashed her back with his staff. A flash of sword light, and her pale, beautiful head flew out, rolling into the black water and splashing up a cloud of foul-smelling water.
As her head hit the ground, the entire body of water suddenly became still.
In the next instant, countless shadowy figures, strands of hair, strange fish, and lanterns hidden underwater all seemed to have their bones removed, collapsing back into the marsh with a crash. The thick, impenetrable fog also began to dissipate rapidly, revealing the original water surface, reeds, and the somber twilight sky.
The wind blew by, carrying for the first time the normal scent of grass and trees in the dampness.
Su Wanwan stood there for a long while before she finally realized it was over.
Her knees buckled, and she nearly collapsed.
Chu Yang strode over and grabbed the person.
"Still trying to be strong?" He frowned, looking at her pale face. "You can't even stand up straight."
"I can stand..." Su Wanwan stubbornly insisted, but before she could finish speaking, her vision went black again.
Chu Yang didn't bother with any more words and simply bent down and picked her up.
Su Wanwan was completely stunned, even forgetting the pain, and instinctively grabbed his collar with both hands: "What are you doing!"
"What else can you do while carrying a wounded person?"
"I don't need you to carry me, put me down!"
"If you keep struggling, I'll throw you into the swamp to wash your brain."
"Chu Yang!"
Sun Wukong, carrying his staff, walked over, his face full of anticipation and a desire to stir up trouble: "Hey, you were all so imposing standing in front of me just now, why are you blushing like this now?" (End of Chapter)
