Chapter 24 "Quack! I don't want to take all the divine stones!"
Chapter 24 "Quack! I don't want to take all the divine stones!"
As your fingers lightly touch the stone slab, magic flows from your fingertips.
The "Language Proficiency" effect took hold, and the obscure characters carved on the stone slab gradually became clear in Modi's eyes.
This appears to be the language of the Second Age of Eternity.
Upon seeing the first sentence, he had a vague sense of foreboding.
This premonition is composed of a variety of factors, including intuition, malice detection, danger perception, and even curses, and its accuracy rate is as high as 70%.
As he continued reading, he finally realized where his ominous premonition came from, and his entire face turned as black as a tiger's.
"In the Battle of Sunset, the God of Light fell... I, Ambrose Morton, the twenty-seventh Bishop of the Court of Eternal Day, was fortunate enough to preserve a fragment of the God of Light, sealed within the Sanctuary's Altar of Light and Shadow..."
He could barely maintain his smile; his whole face fell.
"Quack! It's a Light God Stone! I don't want it! I don't want to touch it!"
The elderly professors standing nearby were both worried and curious upon seeing his expression.
"Mr. Mo, have you figured something out?" Professor Zhang asked.
"Yes, I've noticed something... something bad."
With a slight twitch of his lips, Mo Di decided to call Ling Tianfeng and ask him to send more people over to keep things under control.
Fragments of the God of Light sound like a good thing, and they actually are.
It was far too dangerous, far more dangerous than the Tsar Bomba.
Fortunately, although global communication was disrupted, local communication was maintained with the support of the Ling Group, and his call was quickly connected.
"Senior, has something happened to the expedition team?"
Ling Tianfeng's voice came from the other end of the phone. Mo Di said without hesitation, "Send more engineering teams over. I've discovered a dangerous thing that can be used to deal with the Frostbite Giant Spider."
The fewer words you say, the more urgent the situation.
Ling Tianfeng also realized the seriousness of the matter and immediately sent more personnel to the inspection area as requested.
He coughed twice, wrapped his thick clothes tighter around himself, and looked out the window.
The cold wind blowing from Nanfeng City continues to rage, and it's unclear when it will end.
"These are turbulent times... those guys are starting to cause trouble again. I need to find a way to deal with them. All of humanity is facing challenges right now, and I don't have time to play along with their nonsense."
Thinking this, he dialed his son-in-law's number.
During the exploration of the area, Modi, led by members of the scientific expedition team, arrived at the entrance to the underground ruins where the stone slabs had been unearthed.
"The Altar of Light and Shadow... I never imagined the Mist could even plunder things from the continent of Itniti. Who is behind this?"
The fact that this mist could steal a Frostbite Giant Spider of the Longevity level and also steal fragments of a deceased demon god shows that it is no ordinary creature.
It is very likely the work of a demon god-level being.
"This altar, too, is a setup left behind by Bishop Ampro of the Court of Eternal Day; it must be fraught with danger."
Ampro Morton, an immortal who believed in and followed the God of Light, disappeared after the Battle of Sunset.
But Modi, who was familiar with the plot, knew that, like most immortals, he was hiding in another world, waiting for the right time to return to the continent of Itnity and show his amazing wisdom.
To create a God of Light—that was his purpose, and that of everyone in the Court of Eternal Day.
It doesn't matter who becomes the God of Light; all they need is a God of Light who can protect them.
"A bunch of daring lunatics," Mordy remarked of them.
At the entrance to the ruins, a large door blocked his way.
[Danger Perception] was triggered, and he sensed a magical trap above.
Through the [ethereal vision], he saw three beams of magical light fixed on the door, symbolizing the three magical traps on the door.
"With the ravages of time, these three magical traps have lost their original power, which has benefited me."
The original trap was likely set by the immortal himself; let alone unraveling it, he probably wouldn't even be able to see it.
Now, he has at least eight solutions for them.
The cursed magic attached itself to the door, traveling along the patterns that symbolized radiance until it touched the magical runes that formed the magical trap.
Magic seeped into the runes little by little, gradually distorting and modifying their meaning.
He altered the rune that originally symbolized "conduction" to symbolize "severance," so that when he pushed the door open, the triggered signal would not be transmitted to the next detonation rune.
Magic traps will then become ineffective.
Before the additional engineering team arrived, Modi pushed open the door and entered.
Behind the door was a passageway that was not narrow, with candlesticks on both sides lit one after another, clearly some kind of automatically activated magical device.
However, Modi hesitated to take a step forward.
The dense array of magical energy in the passageway made his scalp tingle.
"Crazy, no wonder the Court of Eternal Day is full of lunatics. Who would set up so many traps in their own sanctuary? They're not dragon priests sleeping in ancient tombs."
He glanced at the crystal-encrusted stone platform to the side and immediately realized that this was an identity verification device used exclusively by the Court of Eternal Day.
The only problem is that he doesn't have the token of the Court of Eternal Day, so he can only try to hack and crack it.
"After so many years, this thing should have some flaws by now. It can't be that there aren't any flaws at all."
With a pained expression, Modi devoted himself entirely to deciphering the ancient magical device.
The difficulty of cracking this device is obviously higher than that of cracking the trap on the door.
At least Modi was drenched in sweat.
When the additional engineering team arrived at the scene, they immediately saw him standing next to the stone platform, his right hand pressing on the crystal in the platform, cold sweat streaming down his face.
Even the low temperature inherent in the Wendigo bloodline couldn't stop his reddening trend.
"Click".
With a crisp sound, the crystal in the stone platform dented downwards.
Modi raised his trembling right hand and glanced at the brightly lit passageway. Most of the magical aura from before had disappeared.
Only a few remain operational, presumably because the identity verification devices are old and out of service and can no longer connect to these magical traps.
That didn't matter; he quickly cracked them all.
"The traps ahead have all been cleared," he told the construction crew. "You wait outside for now; you might need to dig out the ruins later."
"I understand." The construction team members would naturally obey his orders.
After explaining the precautions, Mordi entered the ruins alone, truly entering the sacred "Altar of Light and Shadow" of the Court of Eternal Day.
Similar to other ruins of the Eternal Day Garden that he visited in the [Eternal Realm], the Altar of Light and Shadow is divided into two parts, light and shadow, corresponding to light and shadow respectively.
He is currently located at the altar of light, which is in plain sight, but there is nothing of value there.
Valuable items, including fragments of the God of Light, are likely hidden in the Shadow Altar.
"What burns itself to forge a crown of light? Why is it this riddle again?" He stared at the words carved on the stone slab of the Altar of Light, quite speechless.
The creatures of the Garden of Eternal Day are all riddle tellers, and the way to open the Shadow Altar is by answering riddles.
He had encountered this problem before in a small part of the Eternal Day Garden ruins in the [Eternal Realm].
Modi already knew the answer to it.
He took the candlestick down from the wall, placed it on the stone slab, and said, "Candle."
The altar responded the instant the words left his mouth.
Space distorted, and the Shadow Altar, located deep in the shadows, emerged from the water, merging with the Light Altar.
"Spatial overlap, this is a technique used by the immortals, but... the quality of this project is not very good."
The overlap of the two altars is clearly flawed, perhaps due to wear and tear over time.
But none of that matters. What matters is that the fragments of the God of Light were unaffected.
In dealing with the corpse of his own leader, Ambrose was quite reliable; at least the container that preserved the fragments of the God of Light did not malfunction.
"There's no mistake, this is the corpse of the God of Light... fragment."
After taking a deep look at the dazzling light floating in the center of the altar, Modi did not touch it. Instead, he took a step, then two steps back... until he reached the doorway.
He had obtained the Light God Fragment in the game and knew how dangerous it was.
"This thing is still too dangerous. We need to reinforce the seal on the main gate to prevent others from accidentally entering."
Modi acted on his idea immediately, personally casting a series of spells on the gate.
He took one last look at the door, which was filled with magical light, and wiped the sweat from his brow with satisfaction.
The rest was left to the construction team; he only needed to stay here and oversee things to make sure they didn't accidentally touch anything.
The Ling Group's engineering team worked quickly and didn't touch anything recklessly. They dug out the entire Light and Shadow Altar in less than a week.
In the past few days, Modi has also been thinking about how to make use of this fragment of the God of Light.
The simplest way is to activate the fragment directly, but that will erase the entire Green City from the map.
He won't survive that time either.
"Therefore, I only have one choice: to draw out a portion of the power of the Light God fragment to eliminate the Frostbite Giant Spider."
The fragments of the God of Light are not child's play like the curse of the Black Goddess. Modi can distinguish what he should and should not covet.
If he could, he wouldn't even want to touch this thing.
"The Frostbite Giant Spider is imminent, and it's the only way to break this deadlock. How could such a coincidence happen?"
Mo Di, feeling exhausted, dialed Ling Tianfeng's number. The coughing sound coming from the other end of the line made him frown.
"Something's not right with you."
"Yes, a little, but it's nothing serious. What are your instructions, senior?"
Modi asked him for some relevant researchers and supplies, and he agreed.
After hanging up the phone, Mo Di stepped out of the tent. The cold wind blowing from Nanfeng City hit his face, bringing a sense of comfort.
It seems colder today than yesterday.
"That's right, the temperature dropped again today, all because of that damn spider."
The assistant next to him tightened his clothes and complained.
"Yes, it's getting cold." Mo Di looked in the direction of Nanfeng City and said this for no reason.
Recently, some people in the Ling Group have been very active, and have even tried to take advantage of him.
"It's one thing to plant people here, but to actually hinder my research and try to find out about the fragments of the God of Light—they really don't know what death means."
Modi's face was cold, and the surrounding environment seemed to freeze in response to his changing mood.
"Ling Tianfeng is definitely ill, but we don't know how serious it is. It's best to prepare as soon as possible."
With this in mind, he took out his phone again and called his apprentice, Long Yutian.
He was also told to prepare for taking over as soon as possible.
