Chapter 43 The Witch Hunt
Chapter 43 The Witch Hunt
After a half-day holiday, Klein returned to Blackthorn Security Company.
He seemed to be in a good mood after successfully performing an act of bravery, his only regret being that he hadn't found any clues about his target.
And it seems like he forgot something?
After thinking for a while without any clue, Klein pushed open the company door.
Inside the Blackthorn Security Company.
"Klein, you're back." Acting Captain Frye greeted him, but Frye's expression was a little off.
"Hmm," Klein nodded, then, noticing the other's unpleasant expression, asked, "What happened?"
Do you remember Mrs. Sharon?
Mrs. Sharon, that problematic widow… Klein nodded.
"Yes, she's been confirmed; she's a witch."
"Huh? How did she suddenly get exposed?" Klein was a little puzzled. He had originally planned to investigate her.
"She was inadvertently discovered by our informant while using her extraordinary powers to commit murder," Frye explained.
"What a coincidence?" Klein was somewhat surprised. In his impression, Mrs. Sharon should be the kind of person who was very cautious.
"It's just such a coincidence," Frye paused for a moment before continuing.
"In short, we cannot ignore this once we confirm that the other party is an extraordinary being."
"Lady Sharon's sequence might be more than sequence 7, and the captain isn't here either. If we go there rashly, I'm afraid..." Klein was somewhat worried. The Night Watch team's strength wasn't very high at the moment.
With Captain Dunn Smith accompanying Daly to Backlund, the departure of two "high-end" combatants has created a significant power vacuum in the Tingen Night Watchers squad.
Normal tasks may not be a big deal, but they can be quite inadequate when faced with unexpected situations.
Currently, the highest sequence number is 8 for Frye and Leonard.
His teammates' concerns were not without merit. After a moment of contemplation, Frye spoke:
"I'll call Neil and Leonard over too. Then, you, me, Neil, Leonard, and Cohen will all work together."
"This happened so suddenly, the other party probably hasn't realized she's been exposed yet. We need to subdue her before she's on guard."
"Hmm." Klein nodded in agreement.
"While you're at it, go and inform Cohen that we can apply for a sealed artifact for our group."
"Okay." Then, with a hint of curiosity, he asked, "Which sealing artifact do you want to use?"
Frye recalled and hesitated for a dozen seconds before saying, "3-0217."
Since the Tingen Nightwalker team didn't have many sealed artifacts, Klein quickly recalled which sealed artifact 3-0217 represented.
It is a sealed artifact called the Mirror of the Spirit Communicator, which requires three or more people to use.
The unique feature of that mirror is that it displays various dangerous patterns, each with a different level of danger, but all of them target the person looking in the mirror first.
Tonight, Luo Yao is guarding the Chanis Gate, and Xi Jia Te'ang is inspecting places such as Raphael Cemetery; there are not enough people.
To be on the safe side, acting captain Frye decided to call back Leonard and Neil, who were resting.
After a while, Fry came up from the basement carrying a mirror that was completely covered.
To be honest, if I hadn't known beforehand, I wouldn't have been able to tell it was a mirror at all; it had no exposed parts... Klein and Cohen went to meet it.
"Cohen Lee, is it alright if I let you use it?" Frye looked at the short Cohen Lee.
"Okay." Cohen nodded and took the mirror.
Although Frye appeared calm, Klein could tell that he was a little nervous. As the acting captain, Frye had a heavier burden on his shoulders than he had imagined.
"Hmm, I'm a little nervous too..." He touched the "Sleep Charm" and other items in his pocket to make sure he was fully prepared.
"I've already sent someone to inform Old Neil and Leonard; they should be here soon."
A dozen minutes later, the door of Blackthorn Security Company was pushed open.
Hearing the familiar footsteps, Klein knew his teammates had arrived.
……
On the carriage, seeing everyone's overly serious expressions, Frye spoke up:
"You don't need to be so nervous. There are so many of us, and we work together seamlessly. There won't be any accidents."
That's what they said, but the atmosphere inside the carriage was still very oppressive.
During the journey, Cohen glanced at the sealed artifact 3-0217 in his palm and said with slight tension, "This is the first time I've participated in such a dangerous operation."
"Don't worry, maybe Mrs. Sharon has already run away." Klein tried to lighten the mood, but to be honest, he was just as nervous as Cohen.
"If everyone is too tense, I can recite a poem." Leonard said with a smile, seemingly noticing that the atmosphere among them was too tense.
Hearing this, everyone smiled, and the tension eased somewhat.
……
……
"Boss, so are we going to deal with that witch?" the clown asked, puzzled.
"Yes, that's right."
Upon hearing this, the clown scratched the back of his head, somewhat moved, and said:
"Actually, there's no need to seek revenge for me."
The magician was speechless upon hearing his subordinate's words.
"It's not as simple as just getting revenge for you."
"This mission also has its reasons from above."
"Why, boss?" another clown asked.
"Shouldn't this be something done by the official church?"
"I'm not quite sure either." The magician lowered his head and pondered for a few seconds before continuing, "The Witch Cult and the organization have always been enemies."
"It is not unreasonable to eliminate the enemy."
"Moreover, I suspect this operation also serves as a performance evaluation."
"An assessment?" The clown asked, somewhat surprised.
"Hmm," the magician nodded and explained to his teammates, "That's right, it's an assessment to test each team member's potion digestion and teamwork."
"Every now and then, tasks are issued from above for performance evaluation."
The magician pondered for a moment and then continued:
"A lone witch is indeed a good target."
"Won't it be a little dangerous...?" The clown's tone was somewhat flustered.
The magician glanced at the other man, noticing his worried expression, and slowly said, "That witch is at most Sequence 6, within our capabilities."
"It shouldn't be a big problem."
"Everyone, get ready. Bring your talismans and bullets."
"We'll rest for a bit and then set off."
"The target is on Olsna Street."
……
Inside the Red Chimney Room.
Recalling the night watchman who almost came knocking on his door earlier that day and the messy script in front of him, the mediocre writer was somewhat annoyed.
"We need to speed things up."
After thinking for a moment, he picked up a quill pen and quickly wrote something on the paper.
……
Olsna Street.
"Have I actually gotten this far?"
Looking at the road sign in front of him, Lorne could hardly hide his exhaustion.
After leaving that strange house, he took a horse-drawn carriage and drove away from the neighborhood.
The thought of renting out a horse-drawn carriage made him feel dizzy.
The road conditions in that era were not good, and the journey was somewhat bumpy.
Although his "machine" physique was not yet prone to motion sickness, the excessive fatigue and the poor shock absorption of the carriages of this era still made him feel uncomfortable.
Compared to the carriages of this world, motion sickness in the original world is nothing.
"Perhaps the only advantage is that the carriage doesn't smell of gasoline."
Lorne started walking, intending to find a place to stay first and then think carefully about the report.
With that thought in mind, he walked step by step deeper into Olsna Street.
