Chapter 27: A Shocking Conclusion
Chapter 27: A Shocking Conclusion
Chapter 27 A Shocking End (Part 1)
The neon lights of Times Square surged like a tide, and giant electronic screens flashed news headlines, painting the impending showdown as a battle of the century. The National Guard was ready and had sealed off the entire Times Square. The interiors and rooftops of several surrounding buildings were also cleared—at Steve Rogers' request, a one-kilometer radius around Times Square was designated as a cordon to prevent any potential explosions.
However, even the tightest lockdown couldn't dampen the enthusiasm of New Yorkers. Outside the police cordon, crowds surged like a tidal wave, countless phones and cameras held high, attempting to capture this epic showdown between superheroes and villains. Although they were destined to only capture blurry silhouettes, this did nothing to diminish their fervor. Most of them weren't Spider-Man or horror fans, but that didn't stop them from viewing the battle between superheroes and villains as entertainment, especially such a duel.
Look, something wonderful is happening amidst the noisy crowd: a figure dressed in a cheap Spider-Man cosplay outfit stands out—Eugene Thompson from Midtown High School is waving a homemade support sign in support of Spider-Man, creating a stark contrast with the other onlookers.
Although the first thing that struck me was horror.
With a deafening roar, Hermann Schulz crashed into the center of Times Square like a cannonball, instantly cracking the ground and sending debris flying. He slowly straightened up and looked around—every large screen was pointed at him, every media outlet's camera was focused on him, and they were giving him special close-ups. Every screen around him showed his horrified figure.
This gave Hermann Schulz immense satisfaction; at that moment, he was the center of the world.
Unfortunately, this glory lasted for less than ten seconds.
A red and blue figure swooped down from the sky, performed a spectacular rolling motion in mid-air, and landed steadily in a standard superhero style, then straightened up and shrugged.
Peter was just about to make a sarcastic remark about why no one was cheering for him when a voice he didn't recognize came from somewhere: "Go Spider-Man! Beat him up!"
"I have fans now?" Peter raised an eyebrow in surprise, and as he walked toward Herman, he made a gesture of reaching out his hand.
"Good evening, Herman. Are you satisfied with the venue I arranged for you?"
"Very good, Bug, you know how to pick your shots. Tonight, everyone here will witness how horror defeats Spider-Man!"
Before he finished speaking, he slammed his fists into the ground, unleashing terrifying shockwaves that rippled outwards, cracking the ground and sending debris flying like bullets. At that moment, he was convinced that Spider-Man couldn't possibly dodge these invisible, continuous waves of shockwaves; even if he did, the flying debris would hit him directly. This was his method for dealing with Spider-Man: as long as he kept the freak at bay, he would be invincible.
However, Spider-Man simply leaped, and then began to approach the horror step by step. It seemed that every shockwave was perfectly dodged by his jumps or swings, and every flying debris perfectly avoided Spider-Man's trajectory. He seemed to be able to see the shockwaves approaching as quickly as they were.
Just as Horror realized that Spider-Man was approaching, it was too late. The spider webs decisively stuck to the cracked ground, and Spider-Man tore up an entire section of the road and slammed it solidly onto Horror's head.
"I was originally planning to shake your hands amicably before we started fighting, Hermann, perhaps we can do that now?"
After Spider-Man threw the rock, he stood in front of the horror who had been knocked back several steps and resumed his outstretched hand gesture. However, the horror only managed to steady himself while swaying and yelling, "Shut up!"
"If it weren't for the fact that this was our first time fighting, and I was planning to have a proper chat with you, our first meeting wouldn't have ended up being so intense. Um, I really don't want to say this, but your vibration wave attack method is just too one-dimensional, so... why don't you just surrender?"
"I haven't lost yet!"
Having perfected the armor's cooling system, and brimming with confidence under the media's watchful eyes, the Thrillers immediately retaliated against Spider-Man with a shockwave, which the latter easily dodged with a roll. This time, even the slowest mind understood that Spider-Man could completely sense and avoid even invisible shockwaves.
In other words, the invisibility of the vibration waves is not an obstacle for Spider-Man.
Moreover, the opponent has a completely different fighting style. The towering skyscrapers of Times Square are a perfect battlefield for Spider-Man. He uses his webs to swing and dodge time and time again, luring the Horror to keep shooting at him. If the Horror tries to stop, he will quickly close in. The Horror had already fully understood from the last battle that in close combat, apart from his defense, he was no match for Spider-Man.
Therefore, keeping Spider-Man away becomes the logical solution.
The battle escalated instantly. Herman increased the frequency of the vibration waves to its maximum. As the buildings in Times Square were repeatedly struck, the GG signs and large screens hanging on them began to fall continuously. They were bombarded down one after another, and for some reason, Spider-Man caught them all with his webs, then draped them between the skyscrapers, weaving a giant web above the horrified figures, suspending countless falling objects.
In the midst of the intense battle, Thriller didn't even realize that the shockwave he was firing hadn't destroyed Spider-Man's web.
Spider-Man nimbly rolled and landed on the ground, kneeling on one knee and shooting out webs with both hands, hooking the completed Thriller Launcher. Herman clenched his fists, ready to shatter the web stuck to it, but unexpectedly found that this time the web did not disperse all at once. He looked at the web launcher on Spider-Man's wrist and immediately increased the output of the launcher. This time the web was finally blown apart, and Thriller began a new round of attack.
Spider-Man jumped up again and swung through the air.
The terrifying shockwave arrived as expected.
The amplified shockwave shattered the spiderwebs that had been binding the GG sign and the large screens. One after another, the large screens, still playing or flashing static, crashed down, creating huge clouds of dust that obscured the horrifying view.
"So this is your plan? You improved your spider silk to make these things fall? You think you can get close to me like this?"
A powerful shockwave erupted from the smoke and dust, shattering the windows of numerous buildings. In an instant, the smoke and dust, along with the enormous "GG" signs and large screens, flew out, widening his horrifying field of vision once more. Only then did he realize—
Spider-Man wasn't waiting for the moment the smoke and dust would rise, but rather for the moment after he activated the Thriller Launcher.
In the darkness, a slender figure blocked the dazzling lights. Then, the red and blue hero ran across the huge screen that had been blown away. Spider webs shot out continuously from the launcher on his wrist, connecting to a huge GG sign. He then stepped on the screen, leaped up, and swung the huge GG sign, smashing it down.
Countless media helicopters and cameras could only see a huge "GG" sign smashed on the ground.
[Jonah Jameson, Daily Horn reporting the truth!]
The horrified man, half-buried under the GG card, was trying to lift it. Although it was indeed heavy, his enhanced strength should make it easy for him. Unfortunately for him, Spider-Man wouldn't give him the chance. Spider-Man's webs stuck to his raised hands, and with a strong tug, he pulled him out from under the GG card and dragged him directly in front of Spider-Man.
"It's over, Herman."
Spider-Man lifted him up with one hand and began to grip his arm armor with the other: "You're arrested for carrying flammable and explosive materials. The saga is over."
I was a bit busy during the May Day holiday, so the update is late. Sorry.
