Chapter 56 Creating God
Chapter 56 Creating God
The second hand ticks.
Lu Dan prepared himself for the blackout, adjusted his body into a comfortable position, and prepared to face the darkness.
But this time, he was met with a chilling sense of being stripped away.
His vision became extremely cloudy.
Immediately afterwards, he completely lost control of his limbs, but he could clearly feel his body becoming lighter and emptier, and his neck and above feeling cool.
He wanted to shout, but his vocal cords were nowhere to be found. He wanted to see, but his eyeballs were no longer in their sockets. He could only sense through touch that two rough, large hands were pulling his legs and dragging him along.
"Roommate, stop playing dead and get out there doing some work!"
Lu Dan screamed frantically in his subconscious, but only deathly silence answered him.
"Splash!"
A feeling of weightlessness washed over me, followed by an icy chill.
A viscous liquid soaked into the mangled body.
The next second, scorching heat swept in from all directions.
Lu Dan felt the body shrink and wither in the raging fire, eventually turning into ashes flying everywhere.
As the ashes rose, consciousness began to fall, passing through layers of mist, and finally crashing into a patch of sunlight.
……
The view suddenly became clear, but it was much lower.
Lu Dan saw a pair of small feet wearing red embroidered shoes, happily kicking pebbles on the ground.
He tried to stop his feet, only to find that he was nothing more than a ghost residing behind someone else's eyeball.
This body has its own will and is skipping and hopping out of the familiar courtyard gate.
"Yao Yao, slow down, don't fall." A woman's voice came from behind, full of doting affection.
This body is called Yao Yao. Like a bird breaking free from its cage, she rushes towards the center of the village, and the villagers she encounters along the way all have simple and honest smiles on their faces.
"Yao Yao, go find your older sister to play."
"This child is really handsome."
Everything is normal.
When they arrived at the threshing ground at the village entrance, Yao Yao suddenly pounced on another little girl wearing the same clothes.
"Sister Yao Yao."
The two girls hugged each other tightly, their laughter ringing out like bells.
Twins, exactly the same.
Before they turned into two desolate earthen graves, they were the most beautiful sight in the village.
"Come here, let Uncle give you a hug." A gentle voice rang out.
Yao Yao raised her head, and Lu Dan's gaze followed her upward. In an instant, Lu Dan felt a chill rush straight to the top of his head—an extremely familiar face, square face, sword-like eyebrows and bright eyes, wearing a dark brown leather jacket.
Ye Jianguo, the man who was previously treated like a "horse" to be ridden, now looks much younger, with a sense of control in his eyes.
"Uncle Ye." Yao Yao affectionately extended her hand.
Ye Jianguo smiled and picked up Yao Yao, but gently pushed Yao Yao away with his toes.
"Yaoyao, go play over there. Uncle has something to do with your little sister."
Yao Yao was a little disappointed, but she still nodded obediently and walked away.
Ye Jianguo, holding Yao Yao, instantly lost his smile and hurried towards the largest tile-roofed house in the village, which was the village chief's home.
"Knock knock knock," three rhythmic knocks on the door.
The door opened a crack, revealing the village chief's wrinkled face.
"Why are you here at this hour?" the village chief asked in a low voice, ushering the two inside.
Lu Dan's perspective was fixed in Ye Jianguo's arms, and he could only see the two men's chins opening and closing frequently.
"There have been more and more outsiders coming lately," Ye Jianguo said coldly. "Although I've cleaned things up and buried them in the back mountain, the truth will out eventually. Those outsiders will expose the secrets here sooner or later."
"What do we do then?" The village chief's voice trembled. "What if the higher-ups investigate..."
"So things have to change." Ye Jianguo placed Yao Yao on a chair, his eyes burning with fervor. "Simply using violence will only work temporarily. If we want these villagers to remain silent even with guns in their faces, we need to turn this village into an impregnable fortress and give them a new 'brain.'"
"A brain transplant?"
"Faith," Ye Jianguo uttered two words. "Fear plus faith is the strongest chain. We need a god, a god that belongs only to Shuangshan Village."
The village chief looked at Yao Yao, who was sitting in a chair swinging her legs, looking bewildered, and swallowed hard: "This is our village's lucky charm!"
"You can't catch a wolf without risking your cub."
Ye Jianguo bent down and patted Yao Yao's head, his grip a little too strong.
Yao Yao shrank her neck.
"Once a miracle occurs, everyone will become an accomplice. At that time, even the King of Heaven himself would be powerless against a 'god'."
……
Immediately afterwards, my vision swayed like ripples on water, and it was already evening when it became clear again.
Dozens of torches burned bright red in the threshing ground, and the whole village came.
The adults' faces were filled with unease and fear as they were surrounded by dozens of burly men holding hoes and with fierce eyes.
The altar had been set up, with two wooden beds side by side. Yao Yao and Yao Yao were tightly tied to the beds, their mouths stuffed with rags.
Lu Dan could clearly sense Yao Yao's emotions. She was terrified, tears welled up in her eyes, and her vision became blurred.
She struggled desperately, and her wrists bled from the hemp rope.
Yao Yao next to him was already motionless.
"Fellow villagers!" The village chief stood on the high platform, his voice filled with excitement, "The evil spirits outside are coming to destroy our village! Only the Twin Gods can bless us with wealth and prosperity for generations to come! Today is the day the gods descend!"
A commotion broke out in the audience, and someone couldn't help but shout, "Village chief, what are you doing?"
"Shut up!" Ye Jianguo walked onto the stage carrying a gleaming pig-slaughtering knife. In the firelight, his shadow was stretched long, like a vengeful demon ready to devour its prey.
Without the slightest hesitation, he raised his butcher's knife under Yao Yao's terrified gaze.
"Pfft!"
Blood splattered, covering Yao Yao's face.
The villagers below the stage screamed and vomited. Some tried to rush up, but were ruthlessly beaten to the ground by dozens of strong men.
Lu Dan watched all of this, watching Ye Jianguo completely cut off Yao Yao's head.
Then, he took the needle and thread and walked up to Yao Yao: "Don't be afraid, it won't hurt for long."
Ye Jianguo's face was splattered with blood, his smile gentle yet nauseating: "You will become a god."
The needle pierced his skin, and a sharp pain shot through him. Lu Dan felt as if countless ants were gnawing at his neck.
Ye Jianguo stitched Yao Yao's head, which was still wide open in death, back to her neck with each stitch. The surgery was crude, leaving her with a bloody mess.
"rise!"
After the last stitch was sewn up, Ye Jianguo shouted, and a strange thing happened—Yaoyao, who had gone into shock due to excessive blood loss, along with the headless body next to her, stood up unsteadily, the pale bone fragments clearly visible in the firelight.
Lu Dan sensed Yao Yao's feelings and felt an immense heaviness in her neck. She propped herself up and turned her head, meeting the dark, lifeless eyes on her shoulder.
"A miracle! This is a miracle!" The village chief knelt on the ground and kowtowed like a madman.
The villagers, who had initially resisted and vomited, were shocked by what they saw: a girl standing with two heads on her head and a headless corpse walking beside her.
When fear reaches its extreme, it turns into blind obedience.
All reason collapsed at that moment.
One person knelt down, then two people knelt down, and finally, hundreds of people in the threshing ground knelt down in unison, offering up their distorted beliefs.
Through Yao Yao's eyes, Lu Dan watched Ye Jianguo wiping the blood off his knife below the stage.
The man raised his head and gave "God" a satisfied smile.
